My daughter and her new baby each need a new passport and she has now had her application and 'photos' rejected 3 times.

First time a signature was very slightly out of the box on both forms.
Photos of baby ok'd, but not daughter because her eyes were said to be not fully open.
(this is with photos from recognised passport photo provider).

Second time, forms ok'd
New photos of daughter again done professionally - rejected because she has a fringe!!!! She has only a normal fringe, it's not hiding her face ffs.
Told she must have hair 'totally' off her face.
Baby photo ok'd

Third time - one form rejected because not in black ink (blue/black not good enough, although it was the first time)
Photo of daughter - fringe still not enough off face and also rejected because certification on reverse had a company (financial advisor) stamp certifying who she is.
Then baby photo is amazingly rejected because it has this stamp on reverse - it had been okay'd on both earlier occasions.

Are we now well and truly living in a Stasi state?

So not how she would look like when checked at passport control? Genius. Must be YTS employees.

And don't you have to submit a completely new application each time?

Long story short, my daughter's passport was confiscated by immigration in Canada, she had to go to Ottawa to get a new one which was only valid for a year. Upon renewal in the UK the form said there was no need to send a birth cert. The application was rejected because she hadn't sent a birth certificate. rolleyes

Yup, the typical employee of the DVLA, Home Office or other such useless department can generally be summed up by 3 words fkwit, mini-hitler and . Though sometimes moron has to also be used.

All of the requirements for passport photos are here:

http://www.ips.gov.uk/cps/rde/xchg/ips_live/hs.xsl...

If you just follow the rules there isn't a problem, they're clearly specified.

When I renewed my young Son's passport the Post office (check service) told me that my countersignature's declaration was not valid as it was in blue ink, so i had to get it done again.

What a load of petty bks...

Baby passport photos are a joke, your child looks different within 6 months anyhow.
Also the Post Office checking service is worthless, we used it and still their passport photos were rejected.

From watching the border police and nothing to declare crap on sky the passport people don't look at how well you match your photo in the way you or I would but look at position of eyes ears and mouth in relation to how they appear in the picture, in a similar way to the way you can find your parents as kids in an old school photo.

If you just follow the rules there isn't a problem, they're clearly specified.
You miss the point. This should, for a British citizen of 28 years there should be no problem.
Sounds like you are of the ilk, 'what do I have to fear, I haven't done anything wrong?' crowd.
There, if you read above, very clearly IS a problem, otherwise this would not be happening in a so-called democratic society.

The problem is the goalposts are being moved regularly.
Why?
This is a creep, creep, as we move into something I have not known in my (almost 60 years) lifetime in this once 'green and pleasant land', now no longer.

Here is the update from this morning.
My wife picked my daughter up to go into town. (YES, she is married, a 'normal' couple - perhaps not looked upon as 'normal' anymore by the pc brigade that wish to 'control' us?). He hubby said he would look after the baby but she needs new pics AND she requires feeding so my wife and daughter take baby with them. God forbid should she try and feed her (naturally) and be seen by a pc 'Stasi' type (ahh, can you note I'm losing my cool nowranting

All the hassle involved with this as well for something that should be straightforward - it isn't ... unless you are from a minority, of course, where someone will 'pay', that someone being me and you, for their 'privileges' to get it all sorted and done for them).

Anyway, back to the update my wife has just passed to me on the phone (more hassle, more inconvenienced cost - she was supposed to be doing the weekly shop this morning!).

Another set of pics taken - photographer when told she needed more pics was just as surprised, and just as pissed off so he didn't charge her again!
He commented it must just be a knee-jerk person, see someone else. But they have, they have seen someone different on each occasion. Photographer is more than annoyed now. Remember it's hassle for him as he has just lost his time too, and money!

Got new set pics
Just need someone to sign as the person who signed previously is not available, so where to go?

Yes, my daughter's bank. BARCLAYS, High St WITNEY Oxfordshire! I name it because of what happened next.

Note, as her dad, I have banked with them for 50 years, same branch!
She, my daughter has banked with them for 25 years, since I put her first account in at the age of 3.

Yes, they would do it... until it was realised NOBODY in the Bank could say that they knew her so they refused point blank.

My wife was getting a little mad then too.

So not much choice now but to come back home, because she couldn't think of anybody else except her GP...

Her GP. That's it, solved.
Down to Health Centre. Surprise, surprise, her GP was not available (no, too busy wondering how to spend his 100k a year wages!).
AND my daughter was informed if he had have been available, he would charge her!
Police? Station just 100 yards away.
She knows no police officer who has known her for 2 years so that's out.(I suppose if she had been a criminal that would have been fine cos she would then be known!)
Teacher?
She left school 10 years ago.
AND the Bank told her, it must be a Brit passport holder of at least 2 years, if they are in authority the must have a CRB check pass.

This country needs a sea change and a reality check.
I fear it's too late.

Chrise, I remember like it was yesterday, being told 'we'd never had it so good' in the 60s. How true that was.

It is bad enough seeing what is happening from my viewpoint (having lived and SEEN how this country has fallen - ie I was there during the 60s as a teenager, what a fantastic time that was.)
Freedom is being eradicated all around us.
Personally, I no longer give a damn for anyone in authority, and most certainly would never lift a finger to help anyone in authority anymore.
I never used to be like this, 'they' have made me like it.
Very sad.

Ultimately, it is the younger generation, many of 'you' probably, who I fear for. You really do not understand, many of you, just what you are in for.

God help you.
Let this continue and in 15-20 years this country will be absolutely unrecognisable from the one in which I grew up in.

if you don't like it then leave the UK. That's what I did years ago - quite simple, although obtaining a new passport was so easy that it didn't contribute to my decision.

IF you already have a passport then it is ok. The creep creep changes are happening, but you only realise when (as my family is now finding out) when you come to need a 'new' passport ...for whatever reason that may be.
My daughter HAS a passport, but needs the new one because her of a name change from becoming married.

I have just been talking to others about it and they said she wouldn't have needed a new passport had she not married and her husband had been her PARTNER!

Bloody nanny state.

rofl Oh I take it all back, you're not as daft as I thought!

Anyway, HTF does my daughter leave the country, she hasn't got a passport!

But 'We' probably will do eventually.
Perhaps that's what it is about. No passport, no movement?

I don't want to, because I love this country.
It's just the way it's falling apart, where it's heading and being run means we will have little choice.

I'm 60 in June and the b*stards have just changed the goalposts whereby I will not now get my 'free' bus pass by just 2 months.
Not that I want one, but boy would I have used it to the full (regardless of having to sit next to some obese blob) just to extract every twopennuth I could from them.

Next they will refuse to renew passports if your photo makes you look like a criminal, mine makes it look like I'm from the Mafia and it was a mugshot photo lol

I understand your pain. From the other side of the fence, I have never charged a patient to countersign (In fact I no longer countersign photos because of the hassle, but that's another story) but I can understand why a busy doctor would, a notary does so why shouldn't the doctor be paid for their time?

However, re the part I have highlighted regarding countersigning...

What would you have these people do? Make a legal declaration that they personally know your daughter and that the photo is a true likeness when they do not know this to be true?

You really want them to lie on an official document?

I also don't understand your confusion at a rejection for blue ink. It states on bold on the front, BLACK INK ONLY. It also states that a signature crossing outside the (large) box will invalidate the form.

Perhaps there are some mistakes on both sides?

Well, to me that's what's the problem in general with the UK, most want to extract the maximum from soceity/environment and contribute the minimum. Not sustainable and the results are plain to see.
