It is the port, not the cliffs?

Also it is the business, not the land.

Why is this a big deal? This is not a big business being taken over by the French.

Forgeting the National pride aspect of this for a moment, I thought Brown was hell bent on saving the planet & that was the reason I get taxed to st for daring to drive a car (or three). Now he wants to cash in on this: "...as it anticipates a doubling in freight traffic by 2040".

So shipping tonnes & tonnes of tat all round the globe is ok then Winky? I'll bare that in mind when I'm driving 5 miles less this week.

Of course it's ok.

As long as we pay tax to emit the CO2 it doesn't harm the planet. CO2 is very clever like that wink

Why should it?

It's not like they can pack it up, take it away and instal it somewhere else (like Cherbourg, fopr example).

Why wouldn't it? Are you against capitalism? Which other foreign owned companies are you boycotting, or have shown contempt for? I see you own a foreign made car? Why don't you own a British car, or at least one built in Britain?

Doesn't that make your blood boil?!!

Isn't ABP mainly owned by Goldman Sachs? I don't think they are British.

the government should not be selling off british assets pure and simple , no i am not against capitalism at all ,and i will always try to buy from british companies wherever possible but that is getting more and more difficult as we sell england off by the pound !

yes i own an alfa , but (and it is a big but) if a british or foreign manufacturer that makes cars in this country could offer me something as interesting and rewarding to drive that was within my budget i would drive it.

lets just hope winky is ousted before this goes ahead

You think this will be different with a new government?

I don't see why the government need to own companies.

well i hope CMD has better plans to get us out of the st , it depends what companies the government own , i still think that utility companies should not be in private hands and especially not foreign ones ie: EDF et al

Why not? The prices are regulated. EDF and RWE are a lot more organised than the Government. I just wish there was no interference from the government IE windfarms.

Oh right. I don't know who owned the land in the Bronze age for the area.

But the Romans built the first harbour.

So I guess the Italians are the nearest modern relative. So the Italians should own it...right?
