Now this may not be news to some of you, but it's news to me. Did anyone know that MP's visiting Afganistan are getting a medal?

For what, exactly? Submitting their expenses in a correct and brave manner?

Get signing, please. It's an affront to our service men and women.

If this is true, I will sign faster than an MP's snout, cleaning out the trough.

What an absolutely sickening concept...

It seems a little more involved than that and I support the context behind it, i.e that MPs are asked or are volunteering amounts of their time to better understand the armed forces. I am not however a supporter of the "recognition" they get with this medal - the work they do is just that - work, they are recognised in their salary and this medal is a little close to the bone in my opinion.

I would have swapped the ballistic plates for some cardboard.

I wonder if that was walking around Bastion - a place probably safer than Cheltenham.

Brown: What if I get shot in the face?

Colonel: That's a chance we're willing to take Sir.

22 days every year for more than ten years. Give them a little bit of credit if not full blown honours.

Look it's not even a proper medal, more an award from within a scheme that's a bit diddy but serves a purpose - if only more MPs had a better understanding of the military.

I thought this only applied to the civil servants who volunteer to work in Afghanistan ? And are on the ground for some weeks rather than a flying visit of hours.
