Alan Johnson says we aren't at the Critical level where an attack is imminent, but the threat level had to be raised from severe to Critical (where an attack is imminent) based on intel.

This will overshadow any bad news Labour were delaying announcing

Good opportunity to knock the Chilcott enquiry off the front pages.

Tanks at Heathrow make more dramatic looking photos than Blair in a chair

Sounds like a bit of scaremongering going on, best check for speedboats coming up the Thames, or airplanes falling from skies.

BBC said:
Mr Johnson stressed there was no intelligence to suggest a terrorist attack was imminent.

The decision to raise the threat level was made by the UK's Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC).
There's no threat of imminent attack... so let's scare the st out of the populace for sts and giggles!

This a precursor to the Civil Contingencies Act then?

It's probably because a load of Photographers are intending to "gather" (note - no one is billing it as a "protest") in Trafalgar Square tomorrow, because they are all fed up with getting such stupid and serious hassle from Police under the Anti-Terrorist Laws!

If we up the scarey risks to the public the night before we can justify a bit of innocent kettling on a nice day in Westminster......

(People waving bloomin' HUGE professional cameras round landmarks in London (oh - and tourists) are obviously reccing the place to commit some dreadful act, because, just like Bin Ladle is still on VHS, terrorists haven't heard that there are cameras you can get in little tiny things like 'phones!)

Acute moral panic.

I tend to take the media with a big pinch of salt.

I'd love for the final scene from V for Vendetta to happen...that would give them something to fret over.
