Having a disagreement at the moment with a right lentil munching car hating Leftie, anyway she's basically said Labour has been good to her and good for this country.

Can anyone direct me to a list of f**k ups and failures that New Labour has done?

I can think of quite a few but would like a sizeable list if possible.

Thanks chaps.

Gordon Brown's 10 worst financial mistakes.

http://timesbusiness.typepad.com/money_weblog/2009...

Basically tell her he is to blame for the recession by allowing loopholes to remain to allow people to borrow beyond their means. He failed to put in place regulations (despite being told about them) so there were no safety net checks in place that banks had to carry out when a finance company came to them with the latest borrowing. So naturally following the basic procedures in place they assumed the basic credit check was done and fine and let it go through. Hence mortgage sub-prime failures, debt burden and recession. Thanks Winky.

(as of September 2008) Since 1997 Labour have introduced 3,605 new criminal offences.

Including:-

It is now illegal to sell grey squirrels.
Impersonate a traffic warden.
Creating a nuclear explosion was outlawed in 1998.
It is an offence for a ship's captain to be carrying grain unless he has a copy of the International Grain Code on board.
A person shall not enter the hull of the Titanic without permission from the Secretary of State.
No person shall, in the course of business, import into England potatoes which he knows to be or has reasonable cause to suspect to be Polish potatoes.
Disturb a pack of eggs when instructed not to by an authorised officer
Offer for sale a game bird killed on a Sunday or Christmas Day
Attach an ear tag to an animal when it has previously been used to identify another animal

Under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005
Part seven of the Act created offences of failing to nominate a key-holder where an audible intruder alarm is present. (Yep bet you didn't know about that one, how many times have you been away on holiday in the last few years and not nominated a key holder if an alarm is present?, You lawbreakers you!)

I could go on......Good to see our hard earned taxes have been spent well.

Lowest level of social mobility in the world.

That's a bad thing, is it?

Surely, it is easier to list the good things done by New Labour, as I have done here:

It's a red herring. There is absolutely no reason why we should view higher mobility as a good thing when any stable society naturally converges on a steady and small value.

Introducing personal mobility, universal education and health care and avoiding all out war promotes social mobility in those previously held back.

But we've had all this for over sixty years so our society is naturally converging to a new set of stable social strata.

If you want a massive change in mobility then have a war, revolution or plague. If you don't fancy these then just be gratefull that mobility is low.

Yes, because it's not fair, but more importantly the classes don't mix and thus we breed super-chavs and super-toffs - but not enough middlies which leads to societal imbalances. Grammar schools for example, give the lower classes the chance to go to good universities and mix it with toffs, and perhaps become a Labour cabinet minister so that they can deny those chances to the next generation.
