On the TV now. 7 on the Richter scale. Inland 10 miles from Port-au-Prince.

The thought it was off shore at first, may not be Tsunami making being inland but the warning is still on for the neighbouring islands.

7 on the scale. Too low for a tsunami?

Ah, Sky News.

If this turns out to be two pissed up Brits shouting "Earthquake", I wouldn't be surprised.

I always go onto the British Geological Survey's website where you can look at real time data. Large earthquakes usually show up. I find it fascinating that the tremors are detected right across the globe.

Twitter is in meltdown with updates now the phone system is up again.

This is looking like it could be very serious indeed - hospitals gone, etc. Multiple, multiple casualties in possibly the one of the poorest countries in the world with virtually no medical infrastructure at the best of times.

T - How long until Gordon makes the biggest donation out of all?

I'm guessing about 9 hours or so.

What amazes me is that 4 years ago joe bloggs and the journo's had bugger all idea what a Tsunami was or that one was connected to an earth quake, now every time the ground so much as twitches, its ohh panic, panic, its a Tsunami!!!!!

Appreciate that this is terrible for the people there in Haiti and surrounding islands but FFS, would the press stop scaremongering!!!

Those graphs are fascinating, especially on 'very long view' - on short view you can see the traffic vibrations between 8am-6pm mon-fri! – thanks for the linky

Seismic waves can circle the globe several times before fading. We just don't feel it because it loses energy as it moves outwards from the Focal point.

Yes i watched it , amazing that the fault line where the quake occured has lifted up by about 20 Metres. It will shift again , only a matter of time.

I had no idea that Haiti/Dom republic sat ontop of a plate boundary either. Explains the high magnitude of the quake.
