This doesn't surprise me. A relative of mine (long gone) was a correspondent and got much feedback from various black countries who were afraid of what would happen should the British pull out. What happens generally is quite within expectations. As an aside, has any Marxist or generally communist regime actually been a success ever, anywhere? (I don't count Cuba - because as is usual under communism, it's so great they won't let their people escape. )

Must confess to a wry chuckle at this. I'd imagine there are more than a couple of countries where the people had it better under the Brits than they've managed since.
