Up to an ounce of puff, as long as you're over 21.
As from 1st Jan 2010
Denver has already done it.

Nice work for a ski resort to do it.

That's a progressive economic market!

Feds could still get involved though, couldn't they?

I don't understand how people are meant to sell it, or you are meant to buy it, if you can be prosecuted for having more than an ounce?

Maybe it's aimed at the people who can grow their own?

Yup. It isn't as simple as 'legalise it'. They've essentially said 'it's ok if you have a medical reason', then been astounded at the number of people with medical reasons, and the number of pharmacies that opened. The decision is due to be reviewed some time soon; suspect it'll get tightened down a lot at that point.

The feds can still come and veto it (though with Obama at the helm, this isn't very likely), and you can still fail drugs tests at work, so it is more of a loophole than completely legalising it.

It gets sold through 'pharmacies'; in practice small time growers who are covered from the one ounce limit by having 'patients' who essentially register with, and sign away their right to their ounce at a time to the pharmacy, thus allowing the pahrmacy to have quite a bit in stock.

Not Really hehe

A couple of years ago a mate walked into a mates house and the place stunk of Green. When asked if he'd been smoking it, he laughed, pulled out a suitcase and opened it to reveal 5kilo of the finest Green money could buy. Then my mate spied the large cardboard box in the middle of the room. When asked what was in that? 52kilo of soapbar.

ETA: I think the story is a step in the right direction. As they say, it's better than alcohol

Are you likely to get drugs tested at an average workplace?

I guess it's a step towards the Right Thing, which is to legalise all drugs everywhere.

If you had smoked it legally, is there any problem?

I got tested by the company I joined; it was mandatory. Many of my friends work for companies that require regular drug testing, and they aren't the security related jobs that you'd expect to be testing people regularly, just regular office jobs.

As for smoking it legally and getting sacked...even with a Doctor's certificate for medical usage, the company could easily claim violation of the terms of your contract, and sack you. And have state employment law on their side. And very likely federal law.

The medical usage exemption in Colorado isn't exactly integrated with other laws yet.

Of the four people off the top of my head that I KNOW have certificates, one uses it purely recreationally, one has a genuine medical need (serious period pains, tried everything else under the sun to no effect), the remaining two would be at best 50/50 if they went to another doctor to get a certificate. This seems like a fairly representative sample from what I've heard - it'll be interesting over the next year to see how the state balances the tax revenue against the abuse of the system that's going on!
