No not your wife! did i hear correctly the government are stumping up a large amount of our £££'s where Joe Public can get up to £400 against a new low energy heating boiler?

Yes but the old boiler has to be a G energy rating which I read is a boiler circa 15 years old.

Woohoo! I suspect my boiler may be eligible. We know it's going to need replacing soon, but hopefully it will last until the summer and this scheme will come in then.

My ears pricked up when I heard this on TV this morning as well, particularly as our boiler died last night..... However, when Mr Heating Engineer turned up he thought you had to be on income support or disability benefit to get it?

There is a lot of talk of unreliability with condensing boilers... Think I'll pass for now.

Probably. They aren't famous for being bulletproofsmile

You'll probably need to re-engineer the heating system to get the condensing bit to work properly as well....

I don't think it you have to be on benefits.

I read something like this.

You had to be a Landlord or a Home Owner, Housing Associations were not eligable
It had to be a G rated Boiler
You get a Voucher
You pay the Heating Engineer the full amount
You send your receipt and voucher off and get the payment.

There is nothing unreliable about a condensing boiler; you can rely on it failing every 14 months - mine does , 3 times in 4 years.

I had two quotes to replace my 1971 Potterton (made before the letter G was invented) with a condensing boiler: £3k and £3.5k. Admittedly there is a bit of replumbing needed to relocate it to an outside wall, but £400 isn't going to make much of a dent in the payback period is it?

ours is 1% too efficiant. except it isnt, because the house has been almost doubled in size since it was installed. frown

Had a Worcester-Bosch about 4 years now. Mated to the existing CH & HW systems so not a combi (though installer/servicer says it IS mostly a combi with some bits removed). Anyway apart from annual servicing it has just got on with the job. Brilliant!
