... and so the Labour vote buying begins!
Discussion
Seems that even with the budget defecit, there's still enough money to be handing out free PCs left, right and centre. Oh, you have to be likely to vote labour in the upcoming general election though, of course.

Free computers for deprived families
Children from 270,000 families will receive a free home computer as part of a Government drive to close the gap in educational achievement between the wealthy and less well off.
Poor families will also receive 12 months’ free internet use under the terms of the Home Access scheme, launched next year, which will allow parents to spend up to £500 on a computer from an approved list.
The move is part of a bid by ministers to drive up standards in deprived areas, with the white working classes thought to be at particular risk of being left behind.
Vernon Coaker, the Schools Minister, said: “We want to give every pupil personalised learning.
“The internet packages are like classrooms being beamed into the home.
“Instead of sitting in from of a television they have learning classes straight into their bedrooms or front rooms where parents can see what is going on.
“The involvement of parents is crucial because they look at what children are learning and then read, count and do activities with them.”
The scheme will be available to children aged seven to 13 who are currently eligible for free school meals – open to those from households with an income of less than £16,040 a year.
In pilot schemes covering 9,000 families in Suffolk and Oldham, Greater Manchester, some children improved academically by as much as two GCSE grades.
Around a million children are thought to live in homes which do not have access to the internet.
Just one in five boys on free school meal passes five good GCSEs including math and English.

Lots of bogus insurance claims coming when they have sold them. The PC's should be marked up so they can't be sold on. What happens in a couple of years when they become out of date or they get damaged ?
Why couldn't they use the millions of PCs that are thrown away each year because the owners want something faster ?

As on a commercial scale someone is paid to remove them who then sell them on to other countries. Why couldn't they use the millions of PCs that are thrown away each year because the owners want something faster ?
My Mum's school is involved in this. They think it is a great idea.
Apparently they are given a sort of credit card with £X00 on it, redeemable in PC World et al.
They will all need to be non-admins on the machines imo otherwise they will be riddled. Can't see LEA IT letting them on the LAN!

The next government, whoever they are, will have to take drastic action. I hope joe public doesn't just think "higher taxes, less services = bad". That's the required medicine after 10 years of a profligate Labour government I'm afraid. Unless it's appreciated that the medicine is required. When will the f
king stupid public realise that you can't spend more than you earn ad infinitum, be you a household or a country.I getting f
king angry about that smug t
t Spaz Lightyear (aka McBroon/Winky Mcf
ktard) just by typing this. We need a PM prepared to run the country - that means being unpopular sometimes, for the greater good.Won't someone please think of the children?

That's racist.White working class boys are the worst performers at school, by a huge margin.
Do Labour know who is not achieving or do they just take a guess each year and dish out the dosh as they feel . . . ?
