Good news. Such a waste of police time deserves punishing.

A bit ridiculous really, he o nly has to sleep in jail and she serves her time over 10 weeks after he has served his time. Not really a jail sentence is it?

A long comunity service sentence and fine would be more fitting to repay the wasted time and money that they caused.

The judge also ruled that her husband must serve 100 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the community and public service agencies which helped search for his son.

The couple have already been ordered to pay $42,000 (£26,000) in restitution for the emergency services' rescue efforts.

Well I'm red faced here.

I still think that the sentence should be more comunity based and the jail bit has been rendered pointless.

The judge has realised that sending the parents to jail will cost them their jobs and only hurt the children so why bother with jail at all? This watered down version is silly.

The woman running screaming out of the house whilst the husband was counting down 5,4,3,2,1 and letting the balloon go was absolutely hilarious. Comic genius!

Unfortunately, on the other hand, pretending that your child was going to die - by falling thousands of feet or from hypoxia - simply to raise publicity deserves a prison term as a wake up call.

I think the sentence is quite reasonable. I wonder what they would have got in this country?

Max Clifford to do their publicity?
Film rights to a docudrama?
A place in the next "I'm a nonentity get me some publicity"?

They have been made a spectacle of and prohibited from gaining finacially on their case. Attention and money is what they set out to get; I believe the sentence works.
