..how would it change your attitude towards well pretty much everything!

Whilst I personally don't believe 100% in what we are currently being told I'm also not blinkered enough to think that we can carry on the way we are. the amount of wastage in everyday life is quite frightening at times.

If MMGW was proven to be correct beyond all possible doubt would you happy to give up what you currently enjoy to help save the planet?

Well it is proven to be correct.

The planet has had ice ages and warm periods.

That is climate change.

I wont change anything, I do however strive to cut my emissions down. The bad ones, not CO2. Also sustainable resources.

I don't think many people are denying that the climate IS changing... However, I don't believe that my actions will make a jot of difference, so I won't be changing anything for that reason alone (except perhaps buying more shorts and t-shirts smile )

Sustainability is another matter entirely and, yes, I am concerned about that... Roll on hydrogen fuel cells etc and bye, bye toxic smelly diesels...

This is where the green message is failing IMO
Carbon footprint is slightly misleading (if not misleading, then simplistic and catches too many discrete issues under one banner) and is alienating people.

Reducing "Resource footprint" is more accurate and, to me at least, a more laudable aim.

As a, very minor, example...Secret Santa....to me this represents a truly offensive waste of time, money and resources. Five to ten quid on complete tat that is amusing for, ooo, all of zero seconds.

Despite not being fully convinced on MMGW, I am already happy to do at least a little of my bit. I save energy, reuse and recycle, don't use (as many) plastic bags, etc. I would also be happy to do more from This list.

Man-Made Global Warming is about as real as the Tooth Fairy; it won't be proven right.

But, the politicians and the media love a scare story and we'll hear about this for a while. Then all the same people will come back with a new threat and the same old solutions, ranging from some of your money to full blown Communism.

If MMGW was proved to be true, I would wonder what taxing everybody has to do with saving the planet

I watched a program the other night about AGW and they questioned absolutely every theory, the computer models, etc... EXCEPT the theory that CO2 was causing a rise in temperature... That theory was not even questioned once in the entire hour long documentary - it was taken as a given fact! WTF!

Interestingly, they cited the case of the volcanic eruption (can't remember its name) being used to test and confirm the accuracy of the climate prediction computer model in its entirety, yet the only weather effects it correctly predicted were related to dust reflecting sunlight back into space - so nothing to do with 'greenhouse gasses' whatsoever... I reckon even I could have predicted a slight drop in temperature from that rolleyes

Tell you what, if MMGW is categorically and indisputably proved to be correct, I will happily sell my Porsche and buy a Tesla - IF the Government put their money where their mouth is and don't tax me for being 'green'... wink

That is a similar position to myself, happy to do my bit but not blindly.

I dont have any kids.
So as far as I'm concerned...as long as the planet survived for about another 25 years I'm sorted.

Don't care about your offspring.

The planet will be just fine thanks. LONG after humanity has gone. Only a BIG cosmic RTA will kill the planet - meantime, it just changes as it needs to.

Eventually the sun will burn out and THEN the planet is right royally screwed.

in short, yes. i'd be an idiot not to.

i agree with you. i know the climate is changing but not fully sure where i sit on the reasons why. i am sick of CO2 being bandied about the media like its the be all and end all, but also agree that we are very wasteful of out natural resources. we need to be more energy efficient as whatever fuels we develop after the oil runs out, they will also come from a finite source.

I suspect most people would react well to the "Do your bit for our planet" message - personally (as an example) I've no issue with recycling, but I get royally pissed off with all the threats of fines if I dare put my grass cuttings in the wrong bin.

I think it's the constant "You're killing the planet and we're going to give you no incentive not to do so but we will tax you to fk and give a lot of it to Africa" message that pisses people off far more than being asked to be a bit more considerate.

I'm more concered with lack of resources myself. We will run out of fossil fuels sooner or later, which IMO is a much better reason to try and cut down on thier usage than the risk of global warming.

Not in the slightest.

I'm all for saving money and being considerate to animals and children,
but the idea that anything I do or say will help save the planet to
any significant degree is ludicrous.

Even on a national scale, the UK is only about 1% of the world's
population - so we don't contribute much to the
proposed world problem.

Now if the Greens dressed up their eco message as "let's save money",
I suspect they would get a larger audience in the middle of a recession.

Turning down central heating systems, switching off lights,
buying fewer cars, buying smaller cars, burning a few more
copies of the Guardian etc

I personally strongly resent the Greenies for peddling this bull***t which takes precedence over important and real issues - the destruction of rainforests, pollutants, sharks being massacred etc.. These are things we can and ought to change, but instead the w***rs go on about the CO2 rubbish, and that leaves less money for the real issues.

Other greenhouse gases are also subject to attention, e.g. methane, but CO2 is the gas that requires attention from us all.

Hydrogen can be used as a fuel and can be obtained from water using electricity from renewable sources.

There's not much else I can do. I don't have kids. I don't leave TV or computer on stand-by. I never leave lights on in empty rooms. I already recycle and have my loft lagged. I don't use heating all day, choosing to sit indoors in a coat or do exercise to keep warm. I use energy saving lightbulbs. I only use my small engined car 3-4 times a week (to use public transport would triple all my journey times). I have a composter. I eat a 90% vegetarian diet. I only buy the odd garment once or twice a year. I use the washing machine once a fortnight. I use the dish washer once a month, choosing to reuse the same dirty cups, bowls, plates and cutlery 5 or 6 times (guests get clean stuff, obviously). WHAT MORE DO THESE S WANT? BLOOD?

Until Al Bore kills his children (he has 3 or 4?) and stops flying everywhere then I refuse to listen to the bullst spewing from his arrogant gob.

I calculated my annual carbon footprint (meaningless drivel) including things like shopping for clothes as being about 1 tonne.
