Swine flu - Conspiracy involving WHO and Vaccine Manuf.
Discussion

"The lead target in the allegations is Dutch doctor Albert Ostenhaus, who has promoted the need for vaccinations through the WHO and the media and headed a panel that advised the WHO to announce that swine flu had reached pandemic level. Reports claim Ostenhaus is paid by several vaccine manufacturers and the Netherlands government is believed to be investigating his activities. "
Rings of Climateegate . . . is anything honest these days ?

If WHO members are getting brown envelopes then that should be dealt with but that article is more sensationalist journalism IMO.
The H1N1 virus was by definition a pandemic. There's no subjective bias around it.
I would agree in hindsight the reaction to the viral outbreak was over the top. However hindsight is 20-20. The H1N1 virus still bears a strong similarity (similar surface markers) to the Spanish Flu virus so a cautious approach was necessary.
It's worth bearing in mind the Spanish Flu wiped out more people than the First World War with over 20 million people. Worth also knowing that unlike typical flu it attacked those with the strongest immune systems.
As unlikly as a similar mutation(s) was, it could not (and cannot) be ruled out completely. Also the WHO monitor the spread of disease. They don't generally carry out the science. For that reason I would call bulls
t on the articles claims of conspiracy.

Interesting how this has not had much UK media attention despite the odds of this happening by "mistake" being astronomical...I've just topped up my Euromillions tickets!

Not as scary as this snippet
Novartis and Baxter International applied for patents for this vaccine long before the engineered 'outbreak' in Mexico in April. Novartis made its provisional patent application in 2005 and it was approved in February this year. Baxter International applied for its patent in August 2008 and it came through in March, just before the virus was released in Mexico to start the whole thing rolling.

The Dutch are not alone:

Wolf Dieter Ludwig, head of drug commission of the German Medical Association is no doubt about what has happened:
"The authorities have succumb to a campaign by pharmaceutical companies, which seeks to monetize a non-existent threat," he told Der Spiegel.

Ah well, at least the pharama companies won't have been maniacally overcharging us for all these unnecessary vaccinations...

A company producing swine flu vaccine for Britain has paid millions of pounds in out-of-court settlements after being accused of fraudulently overcharging for medicines.
Baxter, the US pharmaceutical giant, reached at least seven huge settlements over the past 12 months, some of them for millions of dollars. The company had been accused of fraud amid allegations that it had overpriced medicines by as much as 1,300%.

The large pharma companies have always bought their doctors.
Think about all these so-called "conferences" paid for by them. Certainly there are good qualified discussions there, but since when is it necessary for these guys to fly to Moorea or Disneyworld for 7 days (with their wives/girlfriends/boyfriends) when the actual content of the "conference" is only about 1.5 days work...
The same applies to the boni paid by pharma companies to doctors in Germany for the amount they prescribe. I know a "pharma referent" (read drug salesman) here in D, whose job it is to go to all the chemists and actually check which doctor prescribes which medicines and sort out comission boni based on their "sales"...
The "swine flu epidemic" is just a further step by these companies. Their influence also apparently got the UNHO parameters for a pandemic changed shortly before the "outbreak"

Which scientists can you believe these days ?
Not me. I'd f
k you all over for a quick buck in a second.Nah seriously though, scientists tend to value being correct more than anything else. As a group they really don't seem that motivated by money hence the low pay. They tend to prefer intellectual freedoms instead.
Strange bunch but, in my experience, amongst the least corruptable. The corruption in the big pharma companies tends to lie well outside the laboratories. I myself am on extended probation for refusing to practice unethical policies set out by my company.
So we're not all bad. I wouldn't lose faith in our industry, it's one of the last noble ones left.
