I'm still half expecting a 'Civil Contingency'.

Some might say he's run down the armed forces and sent most of them out to Afghanistan for 2 reasons: First to not have enough left in the UK for a military coup (saving his own neck) and secondly to conveniently not have enough personnel here to prevent or provide defence against a prolonged and intensive "terrorist" action against UK targets. Resulting in a call for a Civil Contingency and as an emergency measure a government voted extended government and extension of powers. Bypassing the need for an election, banking on everything getting better and being called heroes by the time the word Election is next mentioned. On the basis most voters have short memories.

Yeh right...

It won't then be an external terrorist threat, if he tried that, it would be a rioting middle England, and the newspapers would love it if he tried, leading the storming of McBroon's bunker, and there's no way the Police or Armed Forces would stand for it either.

On second thoughts, that might be one way to re-engage the UK populace in politics, only when there is a threat of losing a right (to vote) that they might wake up, so I wish he would try!

It's going to be as late as possible, May?

ETA - Followed by an immediate 2nd (emergency) budget by the Tories.

Can't come soon enough to get rid of this shower of st. NI to go up by 0.5%, to pay for the Government mis-spending, the banking fiasco etc. Wont be worth going to work before to long.

1% isn't it? 0.5% originally declared, plus the 0.5% today, brought in at the same time... i.e a subtly hidden 1% rise sounding only half as bad.

Indeed you are correct. I should have said an extra 0.5%, sorry.

The hateful man will hang on as long as he possbily can...just pulling us down further and further...

I would say "what's the worst that can happen?" even though it seems him and the central committee have fked up everything they can, the blunders just keep on coming....not only is he so out of depth it's unreal, he is also completley jinxed...everthing he touches just turns to dust.

The whole "civil contingencies" scenario just makes my scare crawl, truly scary. What is even scarier is the complete apathy amongst the masses though...

Off to sharpen my pitch fork...

Does there have to be a Budget if Parliament is dissolved? I.e. Dissolve Parliament just before you have to do the Budget and hang on for a couple extra weeks (rather than having the election before the Budget has to be made).

I know we're all very, very angry about what's going on, but there is no excuse for sloppy terminology.

The structure you're referring to is the correctly termed "Der WïnkyBunker"

Given the occupant, what noise do you expect to be emerging from it?

Nope - I just checked.

Bunker is masculine (obviously ;->) so it's der Winkybunker.

Oh how the long winter nights fly by finding out how
the Germans have randomly assigned everything to be
either Male, Female or Neuter.

Don't ask me about all the different words for "the", either ;->

Osbourne just got a lashing from the lovely Emma on GMTV. He didn't answer somw questions but I think there was some honesty there. You can see right through Labour's plan of not announcing cuts now. Maybe it would be better to let Labour win then everybody would see what a disaster they would be and that in fact they were the party of cuts and lied.

All we'd have to do is put up with them for another 5 years.

My guess is that "New Labour" will hang on for every last expense and pay cheque they can bank. Then they'll bank their allowances for winding down their constituency offices and get hold of their "redundancy" pay.

I'd like to see a fking windfall tax on MPs "relocation" expenses, Darling you bd can you hear me?

hmmm seems obvious that its "sod the country " save the labour party. I suspect he will save neither and I would like to see labour beaten into 4th place behind UKIP.

i just hope people realise that the bankers are just scapegoats....

Gordon Brown helped fuel Britain’s banking crisis by pressuring the City regulator not to intervene and stop reckless lending, Lord Turner, the head of the Financial Services Authority, said.

heaven forbid they get re elected which they would consider as a mandate to continue with the wrecking ball.

Saw Hammond do much the same on newsnight last night, he was on with the slimey turd Liam byrne, kirsty wark did her best to give hammond a hard time over the Tory priority "is it reverse the ni changes or inheritance tax first, tried to get him to uturn, personally it beats me why the Tories just don't say we don't believe labours figures and we can't promise anything until we've seen the books.

I almost wish darling had done what Ireland did, and I'm a public sector employee! There's nasty pill to swallow on public spending, particularly benefits, I'd rather get on with the swallowing sooner, so we can get to better times sooner.

We all need some osterity, as the debt binge, both public and private needs to stop.
