As far as I can see it, no matter what Al darliang might want to do it will be practically impossible to impose his super tax ina nay meaningful manner.

For example what is he taxing. Anything that could be described as a bonus?

And then who does this apply to? Anyone working in a bank, or just an investment bank/IB arm?

I can already see so many ways of getting around the tax should he do it.

Mad and unenforceable in my opinion.

Once you stop thinking of it as a tax it makes perfect sense. It grabs headlines and makes the voters think you have done sething when you have actually done nothing.

I don't think the uk gummint has much influence in switzerland. So as thats where our financial industry is going the answer is nil.

If you think it is a good idea, then read this blog post from Daniel Hannan MEP:

Well 1000 is a typical Hannen exageration but I can gaurantee a few are thinking of moving with more seriousness than they were 6 weeks ago.

There is a way around it, there always is.

They'll probably be paid in green shield stamps or vouchers or paid via their overseas office or something else.

But where will the communist government finally stop, how far will they take it in an effort to win support and buy back the economy they have squandered?

Every government around the world will adopt the same regime.. I am not going to move my family abroad just to save cash. This will be a one-off tax announced on Wednesday. All banks will do the same as BARCAP and increase salaries by 150% if necessary.

Since we obviously need far more investment bankers perhaps the government could set up a fast-track training scheme.

I really don’t imagine Labour care if it’s enforceable, legal or incredibly damaging to the future of the City

All these jokers care about is being re-elected and they will do absolutely anything towards that end
