Not good, according to the radio report I heard earlier it happened just before midnight. So WTF was the child doing up anyway?

Look out for the social services witch hunt sometime soon.

Breed not known.

I'm waiting (and hoping) for this to conveniently drop off the radar when it turns out to be the "wrong type of dog" for the media.

Does it matter whether it's one of the banned breeds?

Not to me, no.

You can tell that the media are gearing up for another 'pit-bull' witch hunt though. There are already comments in that BBC story about pit-bulls and huge, threatening animals.

Because I don't want this to turn into another excuse for the media to wheel-out a load of breed based propaganga.

This isn't something that I know much about but generally when these stories come out the dog is usually of a pit-bull type. Is this just because attacks by golden retrevers etc. are less well reported or are they just less frequent.

I thought that pit-bull type dogs were bred to be very protective & agressive. Is that not the case? (Genuine question, I'd like to understand more about these cases.)

I thought Pit Bulls were illegal to own in this country.

That'd make them fair game for a 'witch hunt' really.

Was the child sick/wet the bed/just couldn't sleep/had a nightmare etc?
Good points, I'll stick with being reactionary about the breedbiggrin

Pit-bull type is illegal. A cross between a boxer and a lab might look like a pit-bull, which means it is one unless you can prove otherwise.

So buy a lab or a boxer why do you need to have the equivalent of an impretza turbo lookalike?

The breed has not been named yet.

If it was a 'bull breed', you can bet they'd have said so.

yes

Chris Lawrence, the Chief vet, was just on radio 2 news saying that the problem with the dangerous dogs act was that it legislated by what the dog looked liike rather than how it behaved.

A dog's behaviour can be affected to a very large degree by its owner. This can result in an agressive poodle and a docile rotweiller - in fact, all the rotweillers i've ever come across were very friendly dogs

If man has tamed tigers, I am pretty sure that it is 100% about the owner as opposed to the dog.

The problem as ever is not the dogs but the lesser intelligent animals who own them. I despair at the millions of aggressive minging underclass that infests this country and the harm they cause to their young and those around them.
The greatest threat to this country is not terrorism, not carbon emissions, not mass immigration. It is the rise and rise of our very own underclass.

RIP little man. You never had a chance. Even before the dog arrived.

yes

But it's always the dog, or a specific type of breed which takes the blame.
