Student urinating on war memorial
Discussion
Just seen the news reporting a student who urinated on a war memorial when he was completely w
kered on booze after a student night out.
While this is a particularly noisome act, they're actually talking about prison!! Yes he should be horse-whipped at dawn, but prison FFS, ridiculous!!

Yup, deserves prison, although I doubt he will be jailed.Absolutely no reason to relieve yourself on a war memorial, and especially over the poppy wreathes that have been laid down. And being drunk is no excuse either.
The only reason some people might think its a disproportionate punishment is because we rarely punish things anyway at the moment, but that doesn't excuse them or this chap.
I seriously think we should find a way to introduce a sense of shame into modern life.
A magistrate should have the powers to instruct a scrote like this one, to stand up in a public environment in the centre of a shopping centre on a saturday and be obliged to speak out a formal apology. Crowds of people should gather to witness it, free to heckle and abuse as they see fit, or to stand in judgemental silence. He must be made to squirm like the worm he is. And if he does not do it, his parents have to do it instead.
If people had a sense of shame, anti-social behaviour would be less common. Deep , deep down in even the most obnoxious of scrotes and ne'er do wells, there is a human desire to be approved of, to be wanted. Get through to that and a sense of shame for wrong doing can be uncovered. In time I think it would be a major deterrent.

Excellent solution. Except you left out the bit where he would be flown to Camp Bastion and made to announce his formal apology in front of the assembled ranks.A magistrate should have the powers to instruct a scrote like this one, to stand up in a public environment in the centre of a shopping centre on a saturday and be obliged to speak out a formal apology. Hmmmm

We had the same in Blackpool earlier this year. He got something like 100hrs community service and £250 pound fine. I think this was more to do with assaulting a guy that remonstrated with him. He was also met outside court by a group of Veterans, not all of them accepting his apologies.

I'm not in any way suggesting he should escape punishment, but wouldn't our over crowded prisons be better populated with criminals who are considered a danger to the public?
Totally agree, save the space for speeding motorists and old Ladies who don't pay their council tax?...
I believe that Scottish Law is in the process of being amended to remove the plea of being drunk as being an excuse for criminal and anti social behaviour.
Perhaps this may be a major advance in removing an alchohol based defence for this type of behavour.
Personally I think he should be forced to work without pay in my local distillery for 5 years.
