Right. Wifi doesn't kill you, cook you, give you cancer or even just a mild dose of the bad bum AIDS.

But that doesn't stop a school in Norn Iron from turning off their wifi network, apparently on the basis that they know both halves of fk-all about the problem. Or, more specifically, both halves of fk-all about the fact that there isn't a problem.

A parent cited "health fears".

Well, what about I cite "idiot fears", and ask for the principal to be removed?

If the principal wants to improve the health of the children, he could always actually do something and put another hour's PE on the timetable.

My friend refuses to get wifi because he thinks it's dangerous.

In his house you can pick up 5 wifi networks from his neighbours hehe

Its finally happened. A school where the people who run it are less educated than the children they are supposed to be teaching.

I despair, I really do.

So what are they going to do, line the building with tin foil to stop radio and microwaves? Numpties!

They will warn of the dangers of WiFi by phoning everyone on their mobiles....

He Who Speaks Semi Truths said:
The answer is obvious: Promote a new line of WIFI routers that use POSITIVELY-CHARGED radiations to automatically increase your levels of wellness.
Using 2 or more POSITIVELY-CHARGED routers will not only improve your wellness but ALSO build up the Feng Shui in your home, REGARDLESS of where the routers actually are, because they’re WIRELESS! They work ANYWHERE!

Of course, people are smart, so they will be rightfully skeptical of this new AMAZING BREAKTHROUGH. It’s okay, you can tell we’re legit because our routers are ornamented with an authentic LIFE CRYSTAL, which everybody knows is a guaranteed way to BALANCE ENERGY.

Seriously. Let’s build those amazing devices, and sell them at a 50% premium, because they’re INFINITELY BETTER than ordinary routers. They’ve been said to TREAT CANCER from a distance, improve your hair thickness, firm your tits and prevent milk from going sour! (individual results may vary.)

Sure, godless geeks will come and claim those devices are a fraud. But they’re the same geeks trying to GIVE YOU CANCER. Who are you going to trust?

[Note: Try and get Jenni McCarthy to be a spokesperson for this amazing product.]
Excellent.

It raises an interesting line of inquiry though...While Wifi does seem a particuarly low level risk, it is true that safety standards for pulsed EMF`s & wireless transmission are largely in relation to thermal heating. There is a growing body of research which is suggesting that there are potentially hazardous non thermal biological effects ..(albeit with huge variations in susceptibility..) on the nervous system. The safety limit is the battleground.

If you look at the safety limits for country`s worldwide, there is a sizeable variation in figures. There are also huge figures at stake regarding the licensing of transmission bands auctioned off to communication networks & there must be huge pressure to make the safety limits condusive to maximising the return.

The TETRA system used by the emergency services in recent history has already undergone a summer of discontent during it`s infancy & implementation from two opposite poles of opinion...one conducting their own study in the form of The Trower Report & the other study`s from the legislators who had backed the system & were in the business of selling it to the force as such..

An interesting topic...I`m sure well see the limits cut as research fills in the picture more fully but funding is much slower & harder to secure for research which conclusions might have a danger of swimming against the tide.

Microwaves are safe..but you wouldn`t want to eat food that`s been zapped into mush for the rest of your life. In the same way, I think it`s a sensible precaution to keep an open mind regarding the electomagnetic atmosphere, it has never been so polluted, it`s invisible, ordourless etc.. & it is early days regarding long term risks. Looking forward 2 decades..trying to establish a link in a court over a lump or tumour & linking it directly back 20 odd years to EMF, mobiles, Wi Fi or similar (with other lifestyle variables in there too that muddy the waters & provide cover ...it will be a tall order for any barrister to successfully secure a prosecution against a multi-national who would barely need to turn up to successfully duck & dive responsibility.

It`s also important that the safety level is not a loaded dice as it will be largely the next generation that inherits the legacy of legislation that has fed the industry on the watch of our current polititians who have a duty to act to protect public health. I`ve no problem with somebody out there reviewing safety levels & legislation as research continues.

It's a perfect Circle of Fail.

Schools/parents/kids fail in science and maths education. Kids grow up to be fearful ignorant idiots, spawn, then clamour fretfully for something to be done to protect the next generation of the idiocracy.

I suppose it's too much to ask for the science teachers to make a stand.

Probably. "Before eating this foul bacterial contraption, I couldn't sh*t. Now I can sh*t for Britain. Hoorah.".

The same kind of people who won't have WiFi because it's harmful, then ring into a Radio5 phone-in on the subject using their mobile.

Did you read the article? A parent complained. One. Of a school of how many children?

This constant pandering to the whims of the minority has to stop.
