So from today, RyanAir are getting rid of the check in desks and passengers are suppose dot check in on line, but as I have just said to the other half, since Lockerbie, there is no unaccompained luggage allowed, and since 9/11 there has been more stringent checks with regard to the passengers.

So, if you are checking in online, how do they know they actually have the right person on the plane? Or am I missing something somewhere?

I never use check-in desks, always check-in online (when using full service airlines, ie bmi/BA). Same applies there.

Ryanair even let you check-in up to 14 days before flying I think - weird.

Ryanair's check-in pods at Stansted are OK.

With Ryanair you have to provide your passport number when you are checking in online. This is printed on the boarding pass and is checked by the staff at the boarding gate against the original document.

I've been using Ryanairs online check-in for months now, with a checked in bag, and it has never posed any problems so far.
