I was told that Mandy said this morning that he would work as a minister in a new Conservative gubment for the good of the country - I am assured this was true but can find no reference on the net to it.

Did anyone else see him on the telly this morning spouting this????

Admittedly this was in the Daily Mail but it seems the rat is deserting the sinking ship, or at least making preparations to do so:

I read this earlier and nearly laughed out loud. However much I hated Meddlesom, I've always lent him a great deal of guarded respect, until now.

He may be playing to the Tories' comments some time ago that they would be willing to have competent ex-nulabians in their government (a comment ruling out virtually the entire muppet job-lot) then aimed particularly at Lord Adonis, but to have the so-called Prince of Darkness on board would be lunacy.

I've said this all along. His interests are beyond that of party politics. He shares the same friends as osborne.

most powerful man in politics.

Not really unexpected, is it?

Mandy thrives on having power and influence ,and when Labour are no longer in power he will have very little of both.

Typical move of a career politician.

Seriously if he does the Conservatives should play him in a good old fashioned sting. Promise him a government position then get him to reveal secrets, evidence of more lies and many more things to bring down the Labour party completely in time for a massive loss in the General Election. Then say "thanks, now ps off. We don't want a traitor who'll turn on his comrades at the first sign of a sinking ship" when they win. Then allow a "leak" to reveal he did it to discredit him and turn him into a social pariah.

This awful man will end up as PM, and he will not care what party he represents as long as he gets there!! He says he will serve his country, it would be nice to credit him as telling the truth with this sentiment. But he is a clever man who will only act in his own self interest, mark my words we are doomed. Why must this wonderfull country be governed by greedy s--ts and not by people who we can trust and respect?? For gods sake this man is not even elected.....

Since when did the PM make directional decisions? Yeah, their allowed to announce the tabloid loving bits, but surely in a back seat position he'll have more clout??

I think this may have been proved with the actions of the most recent 2 PM's. Albeit one of them was clever enough to realise and use it to his advantage..

As I say he is the most powerful man in politics, whatever party is in. He still has more clout than the rest. This will be the case for a long time to come.

Soon George Osborne will be his puppet.

Given the possibility of a hung parliment and the dire economic and fiscal position it could happen.

We had a national government in the 30s.

They are a homogenous bunch anyway, amalgamating them may be for the best as they may trade jibes for productivity (unlikely). Since we don't have any vote on the libertarian/totalitarian axis, does it matter one iota?

bearing in mind how the average man in the street feels about Mandelson the tories really ought to tell him to fk right off. They need his help like a hole in the head.
