I find myself more and more in opposition to more and more of the law.

How much of the law do you consider asinine?

I can't answer the question because I can't easily quantify how many laws there are in the UK. I am not sure anyone else can either. There are over 1000 laws the give the state the power to enter your home. This does seem a tad on the excessive side.

There was once a time when the laws tended to seem almost reasonable in the main.

Those times have changed.

I used to think that the law was odd in many many respect.

Then I atarted to read a bit of it - some of the judgements, though they seem completely 'unjust' are incredibly well argued by the judges.

SOme of them are real masters of imagining the most obscure possible results of a judgment one way or another - and this is often why certian judgements are the way they are.

Consider this:

In the last decade or so we have had thousands of new laws. Some sources give the rate of new laws and regulations at over 3000 per year.

Now consider the UK thirty years ago. Were the laws adequate? Did most of get along perfectly happily without all the extra ones that we have now? The answer is undoubtedly yes, after all how many people have you met who say "thank god there are 90000 more laws than when I was a kid!" or "You know what, those 90000 laws have really changed my life for the better". Well have you ever heard anyone say this? No? Didn't think so.

If Gordy is looking for savings I can find one right here. It must cost us billions but adds absolutely nothing to our lives.

Trouble is there are that many that you don't know if you are law abiding or not, two weeks ago I fell foul to a little known regulation that meant I had to pull over £100 worth of stock off sale, all because I had made some beads that look like sweets, cakes and food, seems that a child could mistake them for the real thing, try to eat them and choke. (though what child is going to want to eat an half inch hig burger I don't know) It was another jewellery maker that brought it to my attention, until that point I just hadn't known about it, and as we all know, ignorance is no defence!

Even then there were probably too many...
