33 years for killing your children.

I don't want to get into another death penalty discussion but this woman who knifed to death her two daughters to get revenge on their father has just got 33 years in jail. So 16.5 years for each murder.

Seems a little light to me.

If this isnt a clear cut case where the death penalty should be applied I don't know what is.

So she's 41 now. She will, at the very earliest, be released when she's 74. There is a very good chance that the rest of her life will be behind bars.

I think that is a fair outcome, personally.

That is to better ensure that if an appeal is favorable on one murder, there are others to back up the prosecution keeping the murderer locked away..

That sentence is somewhat more severe than that given to Myra Hindley.

That is true only to an extent. Certain states, mine for example, have a "life means life" policy. This means if all appeals fail, then the sentence has no chance of being shortened. Some states, however, may have systems that allow shortening of sentences for some reason or the other (most do not). Now, Federal life sentences are different still and I am not versed in their specifics.

Havent read the details but I presume from this thread that her tariff has been set at 33 years, meaning that it is a reasonable approximation of how long she is actually likely to serve prior to consideration for release on licence.

Horrible, tragic case; no winners - not even her.

Agreed, she could get death penalty and it'll be all over.

She'll sit in prison for the rest of her life now, knowing she killed her two daughters..

I think that'll do her alot worse than a death penalty.
