A nice way to kick-start the car market. To improve the environment. For everyone to get shiny new cars.

And also for the Government to earn more from tax revenue than it lost by subsidising the scrappage scheme.

£105m more in VAT than they've spent on £1000 incentives?

Fair enough, but they'll have wasted twice as much administering the scheme.

And now all the administrators will have lovely Civil Service contracts and pensions. Well, got to find them work to do somewhere - what's the next crackpot idea lads?

Scrappage scheme for household appliances and large electrical goods?

Does this figure take into account the reduction in road tax and petrol duty that is going to accure?
