Labour Gives More Taxpayers' Money to the Unions
Iain Dale 12:00 PM

Outrageous. THIS is the way Labour is funding its election war chest. It uses taxpayers' money to give to the Unions to "modernise" through the Union modernisation fund. And then the unions give it back to the Labour Party in the form of donations. In other areas it would be called a kind of protection racket.

Trade unions’ efforts to support vulnerable workers were given a boost today as Lord Young announced Government funding for fourteen new projects at the TUC Annual Congress.

A total of £2.46 million will be made available to help unions improve their ability to meet the needs of hard-to-reach groups of vulnerable workers. It will be matched with at least an equivalent union contribution.

The money will be distributed under Round Three of the Union Modernisation Fund which provides financial assistance to trade unions and their federations for innovative projects with the potential to transform their effectiveness. Bids are assessed by an independent Supervisory Board comprising individuals from union, academic and industry backgrounds.

I presume this sort of thing will be among the first to be banned by a Conservative government. If the unions want to modernise they can pay for it themselves.

Is this meant to be a surprise?

For the avoidance of doubt, a surprise would be along the lines of "Labour Minister tells the truth" or "Labour Govt not f***ng up the country", or "Labour Party not trying to tax us to death".. That kind of thing.

That's not the only way the Labour scum are stealing from us.
After their first election they quickly changed the law on party financing, reducing party financing etc., but increased government advertising budgets to incredible heights. Now running at around 350million a year.
That's all the TV series are being created as support for the Labour government (UK Border Force to name one)....to try and show they're actually doing something. The financing of TV politiaclly motivated documentaries is barely legal and might well be the basis for legal action against Labour....

Funny you should mention UK Border Force. My wife watched that last night and said to me "At least it looks like the border controls are doing their job"!

The programme has the desired effect then......

My God.

Hardly a surprise. The trade unions always were a protection racket.

The Italian version got a sexier sounding name. And movies. wink

An incoming government should legislate to prevent public funding of political parties.

They should all rely on donations. And the maximum donation should be £1K to prevent bribes.

Unison have a company car fleet of about 800 cars. I hope to find out what cars the high ranking union militant thickos are driving...you'd think they'd all have the same grade of company car, but I bet you they don't, in true quasi-socialist style.

That's actually one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Does anyone honestly believe the Unions want to modernise ANYTHING?

Modernising is the opposite of what they want to do, they're desperate to drag us back to some sort of 1970s strike ridden socialist 'utopia'.

With a bit of luck CMD will have the balls to stand up to them properly. But I doubt it.
