Just got a letter off of West Kent Carecall which is seemingly a service to provide me with access to a Health Coach.

This means that some of my personal data has to be transferred from the Doctors practice to the people running the service. This would include Name, address, DOB and whether I suffer from any long term condition.

If you don't want this information shared with West Kent Carecall you have to phone a number and ask for your information to be removed.

So I called it expecting to be put through to the doctors practice - but no I'm put through to the West Kent Carecall - who ask some basic questions - e.g. name / DOB / address to confirm who I am.

From them checking - it seems that my Doctors have already transferred my personal information to the Carecall folks. I've asked for my information to be removed from their systems but surely by the Doctors providing this information to them without my consent a break in some data protection law has occurred. They can't just give it out without my consent - or can they ?

I feel a letter coming on to the doctors surgery.

my guess it that you've already acceded to your info being shared, perhaps without knowing you've done it.

Just tell them you're not happy and to stop doing it.

Life goes on.

You'll probably find that it's the PCT that have done this not the surgery themselves

Aha thought as much... http://www.e-health-insider.com/news/4655/health_c...

You need to specifically opt out of this it seems. Of course they made you aware of this...

Nice - now BUPA have my name and address and DOB.

I was not consulted if I wanted it to be sent to a third party and probably haven't been to the doctors since they compterised their records so definitely would not have ticked a box enabling them permission to do it.
