Ridiculous!
So you go to Benidorm, get hammered and eat a dodgy kebab and then fabricate the story to say you got some bug etc...
Do the people that make these decisions live in the real world, run real businesses and deal with your average nine-to-fiver who will simply abuse the system?

Lots of companies have been doing this for a few years now.
I do the same for my employees but in my case it's not a problem as they aren't paid much for illness or holidays.
four weeks paid holiday - magically becomes 8 weeks, is not a problem then?!!!!???I do the same for my employees but in my case it's not a problem as they aren't paid much for illness or holidays.
the posties will love it..
call in sick (self certified off course 1st day of holiday, enjoy holiday..
book another holiday when you get back (could you get 'sick again')
permanent holidays !!!!!

This has been in my contract for the last few years across at least 3 employers, so I'd always assumed it was already a legal requirement.
Personally, I don't see why it's a problem?
The sort of person who would call in sick when they fancy a few days off isn't going to do it whilst they're on holiday. Why would they bother? They just enjoy their holiday, and then when they fancy another one, they call in sick. Faking sickness from a holiday is just going to look more suspicious, thus cause more questions, and why would they want that?

Question
We do software to record and manage employee time information including absences and sickness and so on. EU WTD compliance management is something we've been supporting ever since an important client brought us in because they had been sued. I'm very interested in how many firms are starting to protect themselves - for obvious reasons!
Any comments gratefully recieved! It may help us market our product more effectively.

Good point. Personally, I don't see why it's a problem?

Would your firm require a Doctor's note to prove sickness during vacation time?

My company requests a sick note when claiming back holidays due to illness. We are quite happy to reimburse the £10 that GPs charge for this (when giving a sick note in the first 7 days of absence).
Places like the railway have had this system in for a long time. Request leave then go sick, GP note required. Request leave on a bank holiday, get declined then go sick, gp note required.

Thought that had always been the case?
In the Civil Service they have come down hard on sickness absence, reach a certain number of seperate days off in a 12 month rolling period and you can be put on a warning.
Most people I work with are scared to call in sick nowadays even if they are, so now we all get to share the office cold!

Proof of illness doesn't suddenly stop becuse they are on hols.
Many, many large companies have provided this facility for a while now. If it was screwing them over they wouldn't do it.
