According to polls roughly 1/3rd of the population support Labour and plan on voting for them at the next election.

But where are these people?

I have not talked to anyone socially or professionally who has expressed anything but distain for the current govt and Gordon Brown. I am less likely to as I live in the South but still. I talk to people who dont think much of Cameron or the other alternatives but they still express displeasure with the government.

I doubt it if 1/3rd of the population vote in elections anyway so I have no idea where they get their poll information from. I've never been polled and don't know anyone who has but if they do their normal thing of going to big cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham etc all of which all have Labour support then they will get their desired results.

If you had 100 people as your voting populace and only 10 of them were Labour supporters. If you decided to take a 10% poll to gauge voting and you managed to pick all 10 Labour voters would you think you have a 100% Labour majority? This is why I never trust polls.

All the parties have their core voters who will vote for them whatever they do & who will never (even when the moon turns blue) vote for "the other side".

In actual voter numbers its a relatively small %age of the population that determines who lives in Downing St.

soapbox The fact also remains that (IMHO) a very large %age of the population should not be allowed to vote & determine what happens to the rest of us because they are either too stupid to understand or too idle to find out what either of the parties stand for, or how things actually work. The ones that think that Government money is somehow different & a seemingly endless resource (and don't seem to be able to grasp the fact that Gov't money is OUR money) bangheadbangheadbangheadrageragerage

In fact there probably should be some kind of test to determine if people should be allowed to vote !!

You can add, Civil service & local government to the list, together with any union dominated work place (although with each further betrail that seems to be dwindling)

That statement alone should have you removed from the vote.

yet historicaly there has been great support for labour in Scotland, hence the significant proportion Scotish ministers, I have no doubt that everybody north of Hadrian’s wall is just as angry with Winky as the people to its south and come the GE next year, you'll show them exactly what you think of them smile

We were discussing this the other day, and we decided the Crystal Maze is a good place to start.

Everyone would have to complete a Physical and Mental challenge before they can vote, this wold eliminate thick people and fat lazy slobs.

Sorted, also we could get Richard Obrien or Ed Tudor Pole back and put on TV, win win situation.

Just one question : Over the last year, have you been a net contributor to the public purse?

Answer yes, you can vote; answer no, ps off and get a job.

Somewhat broad-brush but not entirely inaccurate.

If the Conservative party want to become Government they need to consolidate their support in the South (taking it from the Lib Dems) and actually get some in the North of England and Wales. Apart from bits of Edinburgh I don't see them making headway in Scotland but, thankfully, they don't have to. The SNP would appear to be dealing with that.

I don't think the next election is a foregone conclusion in any way. Oh...the outcome is more and more likely as New Labour shoot themselves in the foot, ankle, calf, knees, thighs - onwards and upwards - but this election is absolutely about those dithering, "middle-class" (if there is such a thing), floating voters who are swayed by political marketing and how handsome (or forceful) the party leader is.

My vote is assured for the party I vote for. I'm not a "floater". There's nothing any campaigner can do to change my mind: and I'm not alone. What's important with people like ME is make sure we go to the polls. THAT will be Labour's problem, I think, with its core vote.

and a pretty large chunk of Wales. Basically any parasites with chips on their shoulders.

Easy, tax-paying, paid-up land or home owners only....couple that with british born and not a government employee (excluding nurses, firemen and BiB) of any sort, then we'll have the government we deserve?!!?!?

I'd stretch it to a couple of years though, as some people can be made unemployed for reasons they can't control.

As the great man once said "Democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time".

Sadly that means the proletariat get a say

Latest poll:

Where's the 33%? Polls such as this usually underguestimate the conservative vote share come election time, not labour.
