Does this man have the Blood of a British soldier and an Afghan interpreter on his hands?.

For a man to get kidnapped twice is a joke.

Discuss.

John Harrison was a very close friend of mine. His nickname was 'Gumbo' from the film I.D, a proper gentleman who will be sorely missed. Rest in piece my Airborne brother.

Of course not. Would you rather that journalists were not allowed into war zones or that they, if kidnapped, are not allowed to be rescued?

Good question. There is no easy answer. Maybe it's just the way god made you? Try not to worry about it too much.

I appreciate your feelings but think you are engaging the wrong target. Can I suggest you start a thread about your brave friend who was killed rather than a thread that in some ways might denigrate his last mission. Agree that a brave Para for a common journalist doesn't seem like a good trade but that's not the point.

It's a very difficult subject Patrick. Soldiers are there because they have no choice and are doing their duty. If one of them is taken they would have a right to expect their brothers in arms to do whatever it takes to get them back. Journalists are there by choice and understand the dangers and IMO they have no right to expect soldiers to lay down their lives for them. But on the other hand we all want to be kept informed and it's important that we are so it's a dilemma. You were out there as a bodyguard (I assume for a private contractor?). If you had been taken would you have expected the army to come and get you?

All we can say is that John Harrison was a brave man and a genuine hero and may he rest in peace.

It's not difficult for me. Farrell stupidly went where he was warned not to, for his own gratification. The direct end result was 4 people being killed.

Their blood is on his hands.

I hope he thinks the story was worth it.................

So a journalist goes against all advice to enter an area and subsiquently gets captured, as predicted - for the second time.
Two civilians, his Afghan interpreter and a soldier are killed in a rescue attempt. Said journalist returns to give his version of events and enters into a journalistic circle jerk whilefailing to praise the soldier who died trying to save his sorry and naive ass. Should he feel as though he has blood on his hands. ABSOLUTELY furious

That's the way I feel, fk em, scumbags. They do continual damage to troop moral by publishing ste that turns people at home against the troops and their mission. I wouldn't like to be out there fighting in an un-popular war, almost forgotten about by folks back home and then when something unsavoury happens in an area where everyone's shooting at you or trying to blow you up, some journo nails you to the cross when it goes a bit wrong.

Are you thinking of any instances in particular that back up your assertions or is it just a no-brain rant?
