Alan Duncan, the senior Conservative secretly filmed complaining that MPs were expected to live on "rations", has been demoted from the shadow cabinet.
He goes from being shadow leader of the Commons to shadow prisons minister.
Mr Duncan, who was responsible for the Tories' position on MPs' expenses, said it was a "sensible decision" and he was "very happy" to do a new job.
The Rutland and Melton MP agreed to leave the shadow cabinet after a meeting with Tory leader David Cameron.
A replacement shadow leader of the Commons is to be announced on Tuesday, the same day as Mr Cameron is expected to announce proposals to "cut the cost of politics", in a policy speech in London.
is it just me or is it a good day to bury bad news kinda thing? He goes from being shadow leader of the Commons to shadow prisons minister.

Pity, Alan Duncan seemed one of the decent guys as well of politics.
He isn't really.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6xO4xEebNU
He cocked up politically.
Made a valid comment, though.
If you pay peanuts you'll get monkeys. Do you really want monkeys in charge of the UK? That and MPs expenses bills - even the "outrageous" ones are probably fairly inexpensive in comparison to the expenses cost of a moderately senior consultant or executive with one of the big Consultancies.
Working away from home in hotels five days a week costs real money. The MPs ain't so pricey in that context.
