Group set upon driver in horrific night time attack

Published Date: 04 September 2009

A DRIVER was left lying unconscious in the road after he was viciously attacked by a gang of boys and girls.
The victim was driving home from work late at night when the group threw a stone at his car, in what police believe was a bid to entice him out.
When he got out to investigate the damage the teenagers attacked him from behind, knocking him to the ground and kicking him as he lay helpless.
He was found a few minutes later, lying in the pouring rain, by a passing taxi driver who raised the alarm.
Police have now released this CCTV image – taken in Arundel Street, Landport, Portsmouth shortly before the attack – to try to identify those responsible.

The scene of the attack in Arundel Street

Detective Constable Dave Anderson, from Fratton police
station, said: 'This was an unprovoked and very serious attack.
'If you are able to identify the offenders or have any information which may prove useful to police I would urge you to contact us immediately.
'The attack was over in seconds. They were aggressive and they set about him.
'They were hunting in a pack. There's no need for what they did, it's absolutely disgusting.'
The victim, from Fareham, was attacked at about 11.30pm on Wednesday.
He was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital with a fractured jaw, a cut on his head that needed stapling and pain to his kidneys.
Police say they do not know which of the group carried out the attack but the victim was able to describe three of the boys.
The first was white, aged 17 or 18, 5ft 8ins, of slim build with light brown hair and dressed in light coloured clothing.
The second was Asian, aged 17 or 18, 5ft 8ins, slim build and wearing a black tracksuit. He may have had his hair in braids.
The third was white, aged 17 or 18, with a narrow face that the victim described as 'weasely'.
He was wearing a black hooded top.
Anyone with any information should call Det Con Anderson at Fratton police station on 08450
45 45 45 or 101, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Utter bds, horrible that you aren't even safe in your own car. The horrible thing is even if caught you know these thugs will be handled softly, when what they need is a good hard punishment to make them think twice before they try it again, then give them counselling by all means to try and get to the bottom of it all.

You think these types of people can be rehabilitated into society, after their hard punishment? No way. Frankly these are the types that should be taken out by all the "moral" hitmen in the other thread.

When crimes like this appear to be widespread why prevent the law-abiding citizen from carrying a means of defence ?
I'm not talking about a machete or a sawn-off, simply an extendable baton, which in this case may have helped this poor guy avoid a kicking.

Police advice would probably be to carry on driving and report the incident later.

Next time this chap is driving home late he may consider giving a lift to a couple of mates returning from baseball practice.

Parts of Portsmouth can be an utter st-hole. I studied there for 4 years, but Eastney was quite nice. I had a cracking maisonette right by the marina and that area was rather nice.

Saying that I also lived in Fratton (st-hole area), and Southsea by Fratton Park stadium where we had a brick through our window after a footie match.

I even worked as a Pizza Hut scooter delivery rider which in hindsight was a bit of a death wish and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I had my scooter stolen three times, my pizzas nicked a couple of times and then I was attacked by a gang of 10-15 kids in Portsea. I had to take shelter in the customers house until the police arrived as they were throwing stones at me; And of course, they stole the other pizza and my scooter which was promptly dumped just down the road smashed to pieces.

I don't think this kind of attack is a particular rarity in Portsmouth.....especially in Fratton and Portsea.

Sounds like a cull is required.

It is bad; it seems that parts of the UK are no safer than some Third World country slums!
I noted when hearing the BBC news, the first tentative steps to blame everything else but the scum kids who attacked the little boys – stating that the instigators come from broken homes – that’s OK then, lets treat all thugs like victims too.
It seems there is now a huge underclass in the UK who bleed the state dry and make ordinary folk (the victim was driving home from work?) a living hell.

It's going to get worse, there are more and more kids with no education, no hope of work and nothing but a lifetime in a gang peddling drugs to look forward to. Our legal systme needs to wake the fk up and move with the times before it's too late

what's the point in the police investigating? I'm sure the boys have all had a hard life and aren't responsible for their actions, plus we couldn't possibly spare the room in our prisons for them - that's needed for motorists.

No but if there was genuine fear of the punishment, it might stop them re-offending. If they got 6 months hard labour(real breaking rocks in a chain gang type stuff), rather than pool tables, playstations and big screen TV's. Then they might actually learn something from it.

I also believe in a penalty point style system for serious crimes where when you reach a certain level you simply go to jail for 10 years. How many times have you seen someone on the news having murdered somone, and they have 37 previous convictions, people like that shouldn't be on the streets anymore.

I think the prisoner's tariff should be multiplied by their number of previous convictions.

(well, number of previous plus one, I'm not giving them the first one free smile )

Years ago, I was driving in the middle of a city (in a van I had just bought) and was what I can only imagine mistaken for someone else. Following a mad car chase, I got stuck in a jam and the angry "person" smashed my drivers window with a hammer and proceeded to get stuck in. When I went to the police station. Following a load jibber, it appeared that the CCTV footage was inconclusive! It was a rather nasty experience and the police, despite having this characters identity refused to do anything.

Anyway, since it is quite possible that justice will not occur, I carry a bar just in case. Sooner people arm themselves, the sooner the attitudes of the perpetrators will change. Police are useless in this area.

I don't think they would - I think we'll just enter the next level of 'awfulness'.
I don't know what the answer is - other than somehow stopping chav scum from breading.

I know idea make benefits heavily means tested. It'll go bad for a while whilst the scum fight to stay alive, but eventually the problem will die out. No pain, no gain and all that.

I think what we really need is to slash benefits, this would be the first step in making people think about breeding for benefits - I would then recall the armed services from pointless non winnable theaters, to patrol certain areas due to the inevitable unrest, until the bitter pill takes hold and we have some kind of equalibrium.

I think it would be a very sad day when an armed soldier patrolled the streets of Britian.

We're not quite there chaps come on. Chin up.
