clap

Great news, but why one final series? There's still a chance you might watch a second or two by accident.

Sounds like they have already paid for the next years show... so it has to be done!

And what is that BS about binning it for "creative" reasons...... No one is interested in this drivel... admit it!

Great, now all I need is the news that Strictly Come Prancing and X Factor have been axed and I can go back to watching tv, can't even escape from Strictly on the news!

It's only Channel 4 which are not doing it anymore, still plenty of time for another channel to buy the rights... which I really really really hope doesn't happen!!

I agree but the drivel doesn't end there and I'm amazed at how many reality type shows generate income from the (broadly speaking) stupid public!

Strictly Come Dancing
X-Factor
Britain's got (f-all) talent
Big Brother
Who wants millionaire (to stop)

There are probably more but I can't think of any more!

Surely a poor investment at this stage, this format of show has has its time and is now dead.

It seems to go one longer and longer each time, so maybe now there will be a Big Brother channel - one person out, a new one in - and so it will go on forever!

Great news, it will probably be picked up by one of the wky freeview channels, but at least it'll be easier to avoid.

I was just thinking the other day about the lack of decent creative programs that are on tv nowadays. It's all reality tv bullst which, unfortunately, seems to sell well to the general 'hello' reading celeb loving trash faced public.

Also, this is probably why there are too many cop related shows on tv too. What has happened to interesting storyline driven series that you can really get into and think about?

I know this may sound geeky, but there aren't really any decent sci-fi/adventure/really creative programs anymore on tv. Just look at Band of Brothers (probably a bad example in the context of the previous sentence). Not sci-fi, I know, but wholly engrossing, entertaining and very interesting indeed.

Reality trash tv is ste, utter ste, and the people on these programs are utterly fake. Its just a shame so many people seem to enjoy vegetable tv and they rake the dollars in.

Oh yes, that's another thing. Voting for people on tv which costs you money. So, let me get this right, you pay to try and help someone else win a reality show. You actually pay your money for their benefit? Wtf? It's bad enough that the shows are rigged, but people actually pay for this? Blimey!

Is it really good news?

All that air time is going to be filled with fat plods running around with handycams talking to chav scum.

It's been a shocking year where reality TV has plumbed depths so low that BB is no longer the worst drivel on TV. Almost every channel has one of these emergency services shows. Even lower than CCTV shows!!!!!

Society is doomed.

I think, if done right, Reality TV could be great. I just don't think we're ready for what a 'great' Reality TV show would have to be. And by 'done right', I mean, like Running Man.

Ray Bradbury was predicting all this in the late 1940s/early 1950s - including the whole concept that became "The Running Man". (I hope the film company paid him the royalties).

The CSI brand is waning. Just combine the two. Have a few murders at the beginning and see if anyone can solve them using super glue fumes, a games console, intriguing lens filters and some shocking acting.

I won't argue with you about how terrible reality TV is, but there has been a glut of really good TV of late:-

The Wire
Generation Kill
Battlestar Galactica
Dexter
Fringe
True Blood
to name but a few

Good TV is out there. It's just harder to find as it's spread out over 200+ channels.

Unfortunately these shows cost millions to produce. Far easier to bug together a few clips with a voiceover or celebrity-this-and-that.

PS - on the subject of Band of Brothers, have you heard they're making another series called the Pacific? Due to be broadcast next year.
