A fair achievement. Nice to see the UK at the forefront of speed records again.

So glad they managed it. Still surprised at the (relatively) low speed achievable, though. Guess that's a lot of water to heat in not much time.

Glad they did it thumbup
If they want to rapidly heat a lot of water, then show them links to govt policies/ideas as posted on PH.

"Smashing the 1906 record"

By 12mph, so there's progress.

To be fair, I can't see the point in this record being broken. I just think fair play to them. They had a target, they worked hard and reached their goal.

Good on 'em.

I would have thought that the previous plant re-engineered (modern materials) in a modern chassis and bodywork would be sufficient?

It annoys me no end that The Times felt fit to devote two pages to a Welsh brass band who were going to play for Gadaffi in Libya, but could only find an inch for a British achievement like this, eccentric though it may be. And check this out- I didn't even hear about this one when it happened:

Sorry Mr. Schumacher, but your ten year record just got obliterated (okay, "beat soundly") by a Briton. On the dry, dusty plains of Ivanpah Lake in Nevada, Sir Richard Jenkins managed to perfectly harness winds of 30MPH in his futuristic Ecotricity Greenbird in order to hit a ridiculously quick 126.1MPH. In all honestly, we can't even fathom how you hit that speed with just 30MPH of wind, but clearly we're not up to speed when it comes to physics and engineering. At any rate, the milestone is pretty important for Ecotricity, which is trying to make wind power the go-to alternative energy source within the next score. Now, if only we could figure out a cheap and easy way to generate wind on demand, we'd really be onto something.
