After reading some of the comments about him in the press I was interested to hear him today. The man talks a lot of sense. He is a breath of fresh air.

For example - he has binned all the 'twinning' of towns - Doncaster he said was actually twinned with 9 (!) as they are a waste of time and are a junket for local councillors.

Abolished translation services for people working here as he says they should have to learn English if they want to live and work here.

Got rid of his chauffer driven car and (does use his own car) but uses a lot of public transport. Stated he doesn't agree with Global Warming theory.

Reducing number of councillors from (either 62 or 72 cant remember) to 12. Quoted examples of how many council equivalents are needed in various US states per head of population and it was minute in comparison.

Wrote back to one of the twin towns in China to their request for him to stroll by the yellow river 'no and youre not strolling by the river Don either' laugh

Amazingly all the comments Jeremy Vine read out were overwhelmingly positive.

Think the man should go into national politics with a view to being PM in the next election. At last someone with some sense!

He's what Doncaster needs, and many other places I'd expect.

Doncaster 'needs' carpet bombing

Although he speaks a lot of sense he has delivered little of what he promised and admited he can't actualy to the things he said he would. He just does not have the power.

I was really impressed with his common sense approach and seemingly respect that he serves the people - a no nonsense interview.

The fact he has reduced his salary from 72k to 30k really impressed me. I wonder how many MP's would do this to proove to the electorate they are passionate about politics, after all an MP used to be a second job through choice with little financial reward many years ago.

People in Don-vegas can't even speak English....?!

However, he does sounds like a decent bloke; down to earth and really in touch with the people, not just 'down with the kids' as mp's would call it!

Could do with someone like that in our town.....

Sounds like a proper Northerner and exactly what Westminster desperately needs. Most of them seem to get blinded by the bright lights of London and instantly begin whoring themselves out for cash while consuming vast amounts of Bollinger.

Hmmm i wonder if we can expect to see him on Top Gear in the not too distant future, sounds like just the guy for Jeeza to interview.

Whilst I didn't agree with everything he said I was pleasantly surprised at how much common sense the man spoke.

He certainly isn't afraid to represent his constituents or ruffle a few feathers.

Far play to him I say.

Some of the stuff he can't do because the previous incumbent (or should that be incompetent), Martyn Winter, had already committed the council to doing..

Just listened to that, what a legend.

The man talks clearly and frankly about issues that actually affect people delivering a common sense message.

I hope we get more people in Local Government like this and now he has shown that they can break through and be elected more normal people will have a go.

He's the chap that some local radio plank tried to have a go at when he was elected, isn't he? Tried to ridicule the guy and made himself look like a bitter little turd in the process!

Good on im!!

He is fantastic, at least one thing that comes out of Donny which everyone else wants.

Mind you, its the gay march tomorrow in Doncaster, seems as he cut their funds for the 'festivle' (next year of course), think the pooftars may have a thing ot so to say... bless em.

On a proper note, the last Donny council has totaly screwed our roads up with bus lanes that no one wants, and even the bus companies say delay busses, this should be his nect target. Make them open to all traffic, think of the environment after all....!

The point is that the place will get better with him in charge, and will then not require carpet bombing.
