Sorry to resurrect this subject once again, but I'm having a discussion (and I use that word in the loosest possible sense) with someone who believes the landings were faked, and he is adament that the craft couldn't pass through the Van Allen belts.

I've shown him the usual Bad Astronomy pages and discussion and he doesn't understand it, and says anyone could have written it and it could mean nothing at all.

His current argument is that:

- the radiation in the Van Allen belts when they hit aluminium turn into X-rays.
- there was no other protection apart from thin aluminium sheets on the craft.
- the aluminium shielding on the ship wasn't sufficient to shield the astronauts from the (X-ray) radiation.
- the astronauts are alleged (rolleyes) to have spent long enough in the belts to receive a critical dose.

Can anyone please post up links to discussions that disprove all of these assumptions? I've had a quick look but I can't find definitive and easy to understand proof to debunk his claims.

Of course, I will credit you in the response. I may just link direct to this thread if it's viable.

I'm being of no help what so ever I know, but personally I'd just call him a tard & move on. People like him are simply not worth the effort & he will never believe any evidence that you show him. Some people are just fking idiots & there's nothing you, I or anyone else can do to change them.

I agree with this You could beat this guys mad claim into the ground with facts, but you won't convince him- he wants to believe they were faked. I mean, seriously- on one side you have your ill-understood knowledge of something called the Van Allen belt that you read about on a blog somewhere, and on the other side, you have years of NASA firing rockets into the moon to collect data, video footage of them doing it six times, a laser-refractor they left up there so that universities can measure the distance between earth & the moon, and thirty years of US govt screwups that argue against any plausible conspiriacy... and he'd rather hold to his precious fantasy based on something he can't explain himself??

Shoot him in the face before he breeds.

He can't grasp a simple explanation on Bad Astronomy yet thinks he knows more about the Van Allen Belts than James Van Allen and Nasa put together?

Flicked onto a prog the other night that had a Trekkie father arguing with his teenage daughter about UFOs:

Father - "If you think about the size of the solar system, how can you say there aren't aliens out there?"
Daughter - "But we know why we're here, the big bang innit?"
Father - "Well yeah, but who's to say there weren't a big bang on another planet?"

I despair, but ultimately not worth the effort of correcting people so dim, as they tend to be the most adamant that they know what they are talking about.

Aim blow to land just behind the spine so when it hits the stomach and you tense every muscle in your body it hurts the pillock, then aim left hand blow to land in the middle of his head just behind the nose and repeat while asking if the moon landings are real. Repeat "explanation" until required answer "yes of course" is heard

I know nothing of this Van Allen belt of which you speak but I have heard ridiculuos reports that a flotilla led by a gentleman explorer by the name of Magellan has circumnavigated the Earth- which is of course preposterous as any well read schoolboy could tell you the Earth is flat.

used to think the moon landings were real and then watched some clips again....

the flag moving in the breeze, except the moon has no air ?

double shadows when the only light source is the sun and not an extra set of studio lights

when the lander "blasted" off from the moon, how nothing was disturbed under the engines as the lander moved away

So wrong for so many reasons.

To the OP, sounds like someone wants to keep this mindset. Tried this?

Above two are from the excellent Clavius web site.

I can see the validity of this approach, but if you're going to enter into a discussion with someone, simply stating "I'm right and you're a retard" half-way through to my mind makes you no better than the hoaxer who can't support his beliefs.

What's more, you can actually learn a lot about the subject (which is a big interest area of mine) by challenging what they say, even if you don't understand the fine details at first.

Thanks, I've already shown him that, but he doesn't understand it, so to him it could easily have been written by a hoax conspiracist. rolleyes

One thing I'm struggling with is the type of radiation in the belts (electrons, protons and alpha particles, as I understand it) being turned into X-rays when passing through aluminium.

This strikes me of the equivalent of alchemy, but I don't have the knowledge to prove it and I'm struggling to find the information to debunk this claim.

Can anyone help?

Thanks for everyone's help. smile

What you need to understand is that radiation isnt actually radiation but is infact radiation.

Work that out and you will have got it,

Just tell him the that appollo do dads had a thin lead sheet as protection... Should shut him up for a while.

You're going about this the wrong way, use more psychology and less facts.

Use something along the lines of questioning his open-mindedness (surely he has to be open-minded to not-believe in the moon landing), and therefore if he is open-minded why won't he give an equal share of reasoning to evaluate the other side of the story. If he comes up with some bks ask him out-right if he just wants to believe in the conspiracy theory, and doesn't give a crap about the truth?

Either he'll admit to be being a tard and will look into it properly, or he'll just be a tard.

Then kick him in the nuts.
