Do other countries rape their population for tax in the name of global warming ? Or do they actively encourage recycling, switching to green energy etc?

Over here we seem to be beaten with a stick rather than offered an incentive, and so I wondered if other places are the same.

I believe the French recycle a lot and bury their nuclear waste in the Pyrenees.

The Nordic nations recycle even more and rely on Nuclear and Hydro Electric.

I don't believe they take extra for "greed" tax, however Scandanavia pay a lot more tax anyway.

The UK is retarded when it comes to 'Green' issues.

There are loads of valid reasons for recylcing and responsible waste management - it makes sense on so many levels. Reasonable sustainability can't be argued with either.

Renewable energy under the guise of climate change is bobbins but it does make sense to a degree for localised pollution levels and less dependency on non-renewable resources.

Why nuclear technology isn't being utilised is beyond me.

The UK government is basically taking the piss out of the public - unusual scenario...

On the question of high tax nations, there isn't a lot in it these days, especially countries eg Scandinavia which historically were considered high tax vs UK.

The tax is charged in different ways, so you can say look they pay this and we pay that, but then look at another tax and the ball is on the other foot. So it's much of a muchness nowadays.

So if you accept the view that things are very much like for like, and I will admit that isn't true in all cases, but if you accept the premise then where the big difference exists is what we get for our money. That is where the UK Govt is taking the mickey, service delivery and efficiency, or rather lack of both. all imho of course.

In Italy they're very big on recycling - as for tax, the burden is much much higher than that of the UK - there is no real welfare that I'm aware of, so I can only assume the corrupt politico's pocket the tax that is extorted.

Ah Italy the tax burden is irrellevant because they are massively into cash jobs, so lots of the ecomony is "off the books" smile
LOL, I know that now, after spending a years work (and invoices) honestly submitting everything to my accountant (who, incidentally, cost me more per year than my whole UK Corporation Tax and UK accountant fees for a year!) Big mistake - massive tax bill to pay next week!

Man I love that guy.

I get the impression that cabinet meetings with him degenerate into an Episode of Benny Hill very quickly smile

Yeah I have business partners down there, it scares me to death the stuff businessmen get up to down there LOL

I would never be able to sleep nights smile Mind you when the Prime minister and politicians are allegedly bent then why would they care................oh wait that sounds unnerving familiar smile
LOL, that's why I chose to spend half my time in the UK, and pay the comparatively paltry sums here! I regard the Italian tax system the same way as the UK CSA, only the honest ones get well and truly shafted – I would worry too much if I acted like a normal Italian and cooked the books.

There is no real need for green taxes in Italy, as the amount of KW per household is usually 3kw! (UK is 25, even for single flats!) – so you have no choice but to find ways to be energy efficient (no power showers, no electric kettles, no halogen hob cookers etc) – it is a ‘greener’ (I hate that word!) way of living by default.

'more sustainable', is probably a better way of putting it.
