Have a patio or a conservatory? Council tax may go up then!

Ok, this is a Daily Mail story that was just mentioned on the BBC News. In typical Daily Mail hysteria they are saying your council tax will go up by 600 quid, but chances are it will not, but behind the OTT headlines are some worrying details they claim to have found.

Basically the government are starting to assess houses not just based on simple valuation but adding on charges for things like having a conservatory (more for double glazed), having a value add patio, being close to a bus stop, having a full or partial nice view or being in a quiet cul-de-sac.

So ignoring the hype of the Daily Mail story, looking into it I think this is just dispicable! Basically another stealth tax on the middle and upper classes (although mostly middle classes as upper classes tend to already be in top council tax band).

If this is true then it is totally dispicable and such a way to lose voter support, but personally I cannot see Labour even acknowledging this before a general election as it would surely lose them most of their remaining support!
