One would think that China could pay for their own:

Got it; sorry! Indeed, does the EU, spending your money, think that this will encourage the Chinese to be greener? This is akin to the Billions in aid the UK gives directly to India. China has contracted my former company to design and build four nuke plants there. If they can afford that, surely they can swing a modern coal plant??

Just a cotton picking minute.

Didn't E.on say they would build a carbon capture plant in UK if they had some financial support. iirc the level of support they wanted was far in excess of that given to China, but why does charity not beginj at home?

The Chinese must be laughing their socks off at Europe.

Mod edit: let's keep the racist insults out of this.

The chinese will not be making £50 million. The money will no doubt be going to technology companies owned in part by the people making the decision to give our money away.

Am i the only one who can see this pattern every where i look?

Don't we owe the Chinese billions anyway?

I mean. We have a national debt. Got to owe that to someone. Isn't it the Chinese?

If so. Why not just pay the some of the debt back and they can build their own fking carbon capture plant...

Back on topic, it looks like the new socialist US government is volunteering to pony up for China's emissions by imposing an import tax:

"SHANGHAI, July 17 (Reuters) - To address the serious threat of global warming, Americans should be required to "pay" for the carbon content of goods they consume from countries around the world, a top U.S. official said on Friday.

"It's important that those who consume the products being made all around the world to the benefit of America -- and it's our own consumption activity that's causing the emission of greenhouse gases, then quite frankly Americans need to pay for that," Commerce Secretary Gary Locke told the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.

Locke spoke to the business group after meetings this week with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and other officials on how the two countries could work together to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions blamed for global warming.
