An extra bank holiday to commemorate people killed at work.

What an utterly stupid idea! Why do we need an additional bank holiday in a time of negative growth? If we did need one, couldn't we find a worthy cause to commemorate or celebrate, such as those who have died in the service of their country? Behind this, of course, is the old left wing idea that those who die at work are killed by capitalism and "the bosses" in their greed.

These people are so our of touch that it beggars belief.

I'm all for the double bubble. The Champagne Socialists can roll this out without a grumble from me (for once).

These people are merely extrapolating their 6th form common room antics into dire reality.

Pointless posturing by politicos simply making life difficult because they've never had to navigate the rigours of charging Russian or erratic Infanta.

Does this include all the soldiers killed at work through this shabby government's ill-advised military escapades?

So Brown is just making sure he is remembered when someone finally does the 'honourable' thing!

And this will aid 'small' businesses - who account for over 50% of job and more than 60% of GDP - how exactly?

Just shows how totally out of touch they are with the parlous state of the UK's economy and the small businesses that are so crucial to it. Sadly, it doesn't surprise me in the least - just look at the CVs of the leading figures of any of the main parties and you'll see why.

Which neatly sums up the Palace of Westminster and the ideas therein these days.

The Court Circular, yesterday

'Hey, let's tax consevatories!'

'No! let's give the proles another bank holiday!'

'Hah! let's starve the soliders of equipment then send them off to fight an unwinnable war!'

'Amateurs! Let's tax tax!'

'Yeah, let's redistribute the wealth to the poor... oh, hang on, my Finance man is on the phone, he'll be wanting to sort out the re-mortgage on my Duck House'

It would make for 5 days holiday in under two months. More evidence of how much power the unions have over labour these days.

Move all the bank holidays to August, at least the weather might be a bit nicer.

Absolutely fking moronic.

Not that it matters if this bunch of crap stay in power much longer, there'll be no-one working to take the fking day off...............

Ironic that Canada is one of the Countries recognising this day, when they have one of the worst sick and holiday pay regimes in the industrialised world.

Why do we need to be "in line with the rest of the eu"? You don't tend to come over as an ardent europhile in your rants.

Lets see if the post my comment, they never seem to on the Times/BBC/Daily Wail websites.

I commented on having a special General Election bank holiday in the very near future. It's the only one I want.

How very soviet.

Comerades let rejoice in the triumphant work of our fellow workers and the great sacrafices. We can only thank our great glorious leader Gordon Brown for showing us the true light of a Socialist Soviet state.

One eyed C**t.

Well we are either in the club or out and until we elect a UKIP majority then we are in. Therefore we need to comply with a uniform policy on gank holidays. We just don't need another bloody wet one. In addition easter should be fixed as this is no longer a christian country.
