That is very sad and brings a lump to my throat.
Personally, I think that he should be buried in Westminster Abbey as a fitting and lasting memorial to a generation with far more honour and pride than will ever be seen again.
RIP Harry

Remember the dead on both sides of line
To have lost his best friends and almost been killed himself. Yet to forgive those who killed them.To find and preserve humanity in the most inhumane conditions.
We shall not see the like of such men again.
Perhaps the right thing to do would be to lay him to rest among his comrades in Flanders.
I'm choked up, remembering those WW1 veterans I knew personally in my youth. Harry had become a symbol for them all.
Here is the last known 5 men left who has "living memory" of the war. They are just about gone.

The world is a better place, due to you and your comrades.
Hmm... I wouldn't be sure that WW1 and its outcome made the world a "better place".The world is a better place, due to you and your comrades.
Just been watching Last Tommy on cable TV - hadn't read the news this morning and assumed they were re-running due to Henry Allingham's passing last week.
Sat there thinking to myself that only Mr Patch and the sailor in Australia were left now, and so concentrated on what he was saying. Immensely humbling.
I'll not say it's sad news, as he had a bloody good innings along with Mr Allingham and as I said on that thread; we should celebrate their lives. But it's poignant to know that the Trenches have passed from living memory.

Our unelected Prime Minister said:
"The noblest of all the generations has left us, but they will never be forgotten. We say today with still greater force - 'We will remember them'."
In which case, I say; They should permanently commemorate him on the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square, so we can all salute him whenever we pass by.
