I understand immigrants bringing bits of culture over....it is much of what made my country. However, crap rituals such as this have no place. Just try to do something similarly odd to them in their origin nation.

Is it really something that is just from other countries and confined to ethnic minorities? I mean, how many times have there been cases where someone has commited a crime against a cheating partner where the it doesn't involve an ethinic group?

A crime yes, but not like this.

I have a feeling that I and many others would rather some of these groups retreated to the Dark Ages where they belong.
