Yet another one for those quiet moments when you think "God what a way to go", being dragged down into the murky depths of the pacific with one of these wrapped around your nutsack.

errr....these are not that big and dont drown anyone - you might as well post that being pecked to death by a woodpecker is a nasty end, it is...but not a real concern for most people!

They have killed people. They are incredibly aggressive and will attack and try and eat anything. Including eachother. I saw a program on them once and the way the ripped through an injured squid was pretty horrific. They hang about in enormous numbers too. Like tasty piranha!

Apparently Mexican fishermen fear them more than sharks.

this seems like quite a niiave(sp?) view. theres a program about humboldt thats been on a few times and it talks about them being really calm, until people start fishing them. no one had tried filming them when they were calm so the only footage you see of them is at their most aggressive while they are being fished

Naive? What on earth is naive about that? The damned things are fairly big, very agressive when they are hungry and there are a whole load of them.

Go for a midnight swim when they are after food and you'll get torn to shreds.

Most animals are fairly docile when they aren't hungry. You even see people wandering around big scary things like bears at times, but get between a Grizzly bear and a pickernick basket when he's peckish and you'll soon found out what hunger does to them.

what's your point? 1st you say they're "incredibly aggressive" now your saying they're no more aggressive than a bear - an animal which nobody hates for being over-aggressive confused

Please provide evidence of ANYONE ever being killed by a squid.

so aside from movie ones, ones in restaurants and ones you might slip on outside a restaurant and bang your head on a post box.....it seems bears might be winning the "known to have killed people" fight.....i suppose squid are neck and neck with....errr.....gold fish?

I have it on good authority that the squid pictured is a "giant squid", unlike the on in the article to which I was referring.

I would need my trusty swiss army knife to take on that bad boy.

Just need a shark and a helicopter to go with that picture.

Imagine looking downwards with your snorkel on and seeing that thing coming towards you!!! yikes

I think the brown cloud that might emanate from my backside fairly quickly after seeing the damn thing might scare it off.
