"It would be like changing the name of the Brooklyn Bridge"

No, as that is geographical reference.

It would be like changing the name of any other office block/hotel, which is fairly common.

Actually they didn't pay a single cent extra for naming rights.

eta: And they're insurance people, not investment.

I think if you check this list of services from their web site, you will see that they are far more than insurance, IMO.

And I think that if you do more than actually just look at the headings you'll find that they are all related to insurance, or risk management, in some way. I can assure you that they are closer to insurance than 'investment guys'.

Sorry - I just found it amusing that your one line original post actually had 2 mistakes in it, although to be fair the mistakes were copied from Fox News.

Well, actually that would be my mistake alone. Fox called them "Financial Services". I assumed investment instead of insurance. The naming rights was written into the leasing price.

It had a name change a good few years ago...; and according to the architect it was never his intention to immortalise the nat west logo. He was a clever guy, and there were sound architectual reeasons for it being that shape.

Just part of a long term strategy Jim. Prior to WW2 Britain owned huge chunks of the USA. Still working on recovering from that and the restoration of the monarchy.

Prior to The Frogs kicking us out in 1783 we owned the country!

Now the USA are one of the French colonies.

My understanding of the naming rights was that Willis wanted to move into the building and a price was agreed, they then said oh and we want naming rights for that as well. In other words, they didn't actually pay for naming rights as such.

Willis are very pleased with the deal and, if true, it was a pretty good piece of business. Plenty of others have tried and failed to rename the building.

Their new building in London isn't too shabby either.
