really you'd have thought theyd give the cabinet encrypted phones ffs how many issues of national importance / security must they discuss day to day on them. they really need to get security into this century its like the houses of parliament guarded by people with swords inside.

Its not bugging of phones if I understand correctly, more a case of 'hacking into' their voicemail.

Which, if you are stupid enough as an MP (need I say more) or celebrity (comes with the territory) not to change or enable your PIN code then you really need shooting.

In essence, all you need to do is call up the persons mobile number, hit the hash key for example, and input the standard 4 digit PIN as set by default by the network. From there it is as if you have called 901/121 etc from your handset.

Naughty but incredibly easy.

Exactly, people are idiots and thes reporters are taking advantage of this. Not that this is right but it is hardly "hacking"

What I mean is, it's hardly shocking to learn that The Sun and The News of the World have been using underhand tactics to get stories. They have long had a blind eye turned to the way they conduct their business, as they have so much sway with the kind of voter who can just about read. The kind which there happens to be a lot of.

Donning a tinfoil hat for a moment, could this be a shot across their bows after it has become clear they are willing to switch sides in an attempt to get an "Its the Sun Wot Won It" headline?
