Cameron has suggested we store all of our medical records with google, this worries me a
seriously as google could end up using it for targeted advertising, selling to unscrupulous people and the risk of waylaying data due to theft, keep it in a security company that's not also the world leader in preparing data far accessibility. Hopefully he will see sense :s

i don't think it will be a case of storing cases on google it's more of finding a partner like google or MS that would be able to offer a solution. As he rightly said, who has recently lost the most of our personal info...... HM Government of course in super duper secure government depts

The advantage of google selling our data to unscrupulous people is you can buy shares in google and i'd trust google way more then the government we use the google search engine at work on our own database. Allows a google like word type search, documents are scanned by the google spider to pick up the text etc. but does not relate to google the web search engine at all. Would make sence to have a database managed by the government just with google type search engine software added on.

My question isThe google spider
Can it be trained so that when it gets left on a train is it clever enough to walk home?

No they couldn't, not unless they changed the terms and conditions of the agreement you sign when you create a Google Documents account.seriously as google could end up using it for targeted advertising, selling to unscrupulous people and the risk of waylaying data due to theft, keep it in a security company that's not also the world leader in preparing data far accessibility. I don't think Google would be particularly interested in being on the receiving end of a class-action lawsuit from hundreds of thousands of people.
I'd trust Google more than I'd trust the civil service.

Problem is, you say Google and everyone thinks of their public search engine.
Google are superb at building vastly scalable, fast searching databases of information. If I was in charge, I'd probably get someone like Google or Amazon to build the system - they can leverage existing technology and produce something that works for a darn sight less than the £12.1 bln NHS mistake that still doesn't work and no-one wants.
If sht companies like EDS built it, it would barely work and be over budget. Need more scalability? No problem, give us a few million to investigate what we need, a few more to do this that and the other cack and before you know it you've spent hundreds of millions and it still won't scale.
Google - it'll more likely be on time and to budget, and you need to scale it up? One data centre in a shipping container turns up and is plugged in. Job done.
