Public sector bandwagon a wise ride?
Discussion
Recently I have been involved in tendering on quite large public sector projects around leadership development/training/coaching etc. One of the things I am told is that the numbers of companies fighting for the work has gone through the roof (unsurprisngly). People are tendering for peanuts and on anything they can see they have a remote chance of, just to stay in business.
But I wonder how many of these projects will come to fruition now? Unless there is a legal or major policy incentive, who would spend upwards of £8M on a new programme in the current climate given public concern about spending, and is it likely that even if it kicks off the Tories won't just put a line through it and cut their losses once in power?

This is part of the reason why government projects are so expensive. Companies are taking a massive risk that the project will be scaled back, changed or abandoned half way through.
In fact I believe that many companies now insist on being paid to tender for government projects.
Cheeky buggers. In fact I believe that many companies now insist on being paid to tender for government projects.

Therein lies the problem.Organisations so incapable that they need to call upon others to provide that which they should do as part of their normal operations.
Because their internal structures are not able to allow talented individuals to
progress, for fear of upsetting the "staus quo"?

My wife works for a Government department and has so much training, reviews, evaluations etc etc that it seriously interferes with her ability to get her job done.
Teacher daughter is similar, but is expected to fit it all in and still do all her teaching/marking/preparation/pastoral stuff at the same time. She has a tough time.
Health Service daughter is just in another league - there doesn't actually seem to be any work attached to her job at all. The whole thing is about personal development. She's quite seriously like a full-time student who sees a couple of patients a week as part of some kind of project.

i would also look at the pay structure, apparently the ofcom head is on nearly half a million.i would do that job for half that, there £200k saved straight away.
oh and apparently we in the public sector should have a pay freeze so as not to upset staff in the private sector (not that i would expect on in this climate) i don't remember anyone making the private sector have smaller pay rises when the economy was booming in case it upset me.
my point is that they need to be honest, they patronise us with daft reasons like that, just be honest and say, we can't afford it yet, but it will help the country long term.
then we can laugh at all the idiots who say no way i want my pound of flesh, and in 6 months get canned because of budget cuts.

I think the reason that the Public sector are getting a hard time at the moment is that generally you deliver st services at terrible value and think you are hard done by with it.
You dont deserve pay rises as the country is bankrupt and as you contribute nothing to the countries prosperity in fact you are only a parasitic entity suckling at the genereous tits of the UK.
The Private sector are the reason you get paid at all you pointless waste of Final Salaried Pension.
