Yahoo news

A cricket umpire has died after being struck on the head by a ball. Alcwyn Jenkins was officiating a game at the St Helen's ground in Swansea on Saturday afternoon when he collapsed after the blow.

Well they banned swim goggles incase you hurt your eyes, banned konker's (elf n safety), and British Bulldog, I think.

Is the end of cricket whistle

Hard-hats for all cricketers?
Mind, I think the killer-ball was being returned from the crowd so, perhaps they should just ban the spectators. wink

they didn't 'ban' any of the above, they were stopped in certain places. Why do idiots love the word 'ban' these days.

Ban this, ban that, it should be banned, they banned this that and the other................ rolleyes

They didn't 'ban' anything, one (stupid) school informed children and parents not to use them.

No, he isn't.

British Association of Advisers and Lecturers in Physical Education said:
For reasons of individual safety, the use of goggles should not be allowed unless the pupil has proven particular needs – through involvement in long and frequent training sessions, outside school hours, or if the individual has particularly sensitive eyes. In these rare instances where the use of goggles may be allowed the adult responsible for the group should have the prerogative to require the pupil to remove them for reasons of safety if the pupil constantly adjusts or removes and replaces the goggles.

Medical certification of such particular needs could create unwarranted cost to parents. Instead, schools should require a parental letter stating that the pupil has particular needs to warrant the use of goggles. Such a letter would have the status of simply being informative and would not constitute any form of indemnity should injury arise later through the misuse of the goggles.
Parents/carers should be informed of the prerogative of the adult in charge to require the removal of the goggles for reasons of safety when they request the wearing of goggles because of their child’s particular need.

My condolences to his family.

Cant see why this is funny, or why you are using it to push an anti-health and safety agenda you seem to have.

Wasn't saying it was funny, but with the elf n safety banning this and that, or imposing what I would call "Stupidity" most activites are doomed.

I just saw this as yet another activity coming to the attention of the "Do gooders" and "Elf n Safety" bunch we have to put up with. Yes condolences to his family, a sad event, don't want you to take my comments as trying to be funny, far from it.

"Reasons of safety if the pupil constantly adjusts or removes and replaces the goggles"???

Just what the bleeding blinding cock-mangling disease-catching fk-of-a-syphilitic-tranny-we are these benightedly unicellular-brained mongoloid fkheads on about?

Safety?? fking SAFETY??? Do these same st-for-brains morons also make pupils eat their school dinners with their fingers in case they stab themselves with the fork? Because that would make more sense than this does.

As it happens this particular stupidity isn't new. I remember going to a swimming pool in Leicester in the 70s while visiting some friends.... I had forgotten it until just now, but reading this thread reminded me of how shocked, staggered and completely baffled I was when the s wouldn't let me wear my goggles. Not to mention how angry I was at the unbelievable stupidity of it and their refusal to even provide a reason. I've remembered now, and it makes me want to get all these flaming morons together, tie them up, put them on the floor, stamp on their faces and piss in the wounds.

This may sound glib and a bad attempt at dark humour, but seriously, (at least), if he was a committed and enthusiastic umpire, (and most are, I'm certain), he has died doing something he probably loved deeply.

Still pretty tragic though, poor chap.

You seem a little angry. To soothe your troubled brow, allow me to introduce you to the pointless knife, soon to be found in a Home Ec. class near you('re children):

Where does the article that you haven't linked mention anything about health and safety? Let the poor man rest in peace FFS.

Then why don't you think about posting absolute tripe and drivel?

A man is dead, leaving no doubt family and loved ones mourning his loss, through a tragic accident.

Why you have to be a complete cock and put a "spin" on it, I have no idea, other than to show how fked up this country has become when it comes to how we view innocent people tragically losing their lives.
