Announced her resignation as Governor of Alaska yesterday.

She's not going to serve her term but finish governing by the end of July.
Where will she go next with politics?

Shock resignation

Top of the tree more than likely.

It is not as if McCain has a shot at anything anymore.

She is also quite popular, conntrary to a lot of medias efforts.

Scary enough her being a heart attack/stroke etc away from the red button.

I can't see her having a shot at the big job. "What is your experience?" "Uh, well I Governed the smallest state in the US for a bit, but then quit before I'd even completed one term". SO I'm reckoning she's been offered a lucerative book/media deal, realised she's pretty much maxxed out her career ambitions & is just going for the money.

Smallest state. I assume you mean population?

True; but certainly that is more forgivable than thinking it was the smallest land-wise. I was either offering a break or baiting....not sure which. smile

ETA: For perception: Land mass: England / 50,346 Sq. Miles
Alaska / 586,400 Sq. Miles

Not counting the territories, there are 4 states with smaller population. That said, there is almost a square mile of Alaska for each member of its small population of 686,000. smile

The "it's not the smallest" argument doesn't detract from the point being made.

Yes. I know Alaska is a bit big, but genuinely had the impression that it had the lowest population of the US states. Regardless of wether how accurate my assumption, I still cant see her inability to stick it out out for a full term in Alaska helping her at all when it comes to get the nomination, let alone a Obamas job.

Still strikes me as odd, though, and her reasons for quitting seemed pretty vague, though I imagine our US members have seen more than I. Reckon someone could have some decent blackmail material? Or do you reckon she's just guessed she's not cut out for politics, now that she's seen the inside of the Republicans campaigning machine?

Hmmmmm... not so sure. From the way Fox News has been praising her to the sky as the Republicans New Messiah I'm guessing she either is believing her own hype or knows something we don't...

I think she has had a bad rap and is not that bad. That said, I do not feel she is right for the job and will not be nominated. ETA: Don't go by media. CNN and a few others say absolutely nothing negative about Obama leading some to believe he is stainless.

And how to Fox treat Obama?

Surely it is to early to call the next challengers for the US president, I don't recall much hype about Obama in 2005, the earliest betting I can find:

"Obama still sits with 10 to 1 odds of becoming the next US President. Democrat Hillary Clinton remains the 3 to 1 favorite followed closely by Republican John McCain at 6 to 1 odds.

Democrat Al Gore, meanwhile, has become a big favorite as well with 9 to 2 odds."
