Reading about the sad loss of Colonel Thorneloe and many others to Taliban IED's, what is the reality of battlefield surveillance? If we are told we have
predators, drones, satellites, Nimrods etc stooging around 24/7, surely blokes with shovels digging holes near roads for IED's are going to stand out aren't they?

Thats oneof the things that they are used for. But there are only so any of them available and they have lots of demands on them.

Don't think you could watch all god-knows-how-many thousands of miles of road all the time. I'd imagine an IED could take a few minutes only to set.

It's just too big unfortunately. For every one killed out there there's about 10 guys coming home badly injured ( You don't tend to see that in the press )

My Brother in Law is recovering from a significant head injury from an IED hit on his Jackal, spent 7 days in a coma and is having to learn alot of things again now - speech/walking etc. He was the lucky one, guy next to him was killed. Visiting him though certainly wakes you up to how many are coming back injured and how badly.

It's a dirty war using dirty tactics.
