College bars visitor wearing veil

Story about nothing? I'm not sure. Well done to the college for upholding their rules and well done to those who showed respect and removed their veils.
When I were a lad, we visited a Muslim Mosque, Hindu Temple and a Sikh Gurdwara as part of normal RE in secondary school. They have rules (shoes off, cover head etc) which we abided by... and nobody ever even considered keeping their shoes on "because they have a right to wear shoes".

I had to read that twice to work out how it even made the news!
This would appear to be the relevant bit:

A spokesman for the Ramadhan Foundation said the women's decision to wear the veils should be recognised.
So, the veiled teacher is trying to make a story of it via some 'Foundation'. Silly cow. I would not expect to enter a mosque without removing my shoes.LeoZwalf said:

Seems to me like they did recognise her descision to wear the veil. But she still wasnt welcome whilst wearing it because they considered wearing it to be rude. She declined to remove it so they declined to welcome her. Obviously she would rather decline to enter rather than take it off. Her descision also and respected by the people she was visiting.
The point about wearing a shoes in a mosque is very apt and goes both ways.
I'll bet she explored all sorts of avenues to get some publicity for her outrage and to get the people that refused to bend to her will in serious trouble. Petty little coward.

These kids who wear veils....
How do the schools know who is sitting exams...?
The knobjockey on the radio this morning seemed to imply that they don't actually wear the veils at school in class etc. and got rather defensive / vague when being pushed. How do the schools know who is sitting exams...?
Religion is such a fking waste of space / time / money / blood.

How do you know it was the woman who went to the press- the only person doing the talking seems to be the principal.
Naive. This is a non-story for the college, not something they would issue a press release over. The woman will have gone to the press, probably via the 'Foundation' named in the article.grumbledoak said:

I suspect that many veil wearers (the ones that do it by choice at least) are fairly militant in their attitudes and probably wanted to teach the school a lesson for messing with her.
