So sad that when the world has created aircraft like the SR-71 and the Concorde that $hit can still happen and plane loads of innocent people get lost.

Not many details in the article but Mother Nature can be a bh.

Another A330-200 too.

Edit : Apparentlt not, it was an A310, that was just poor BBC reporting.

Shocking situation if this turns out to be a similar incident.

Concorde fleet grounded because of a freak accident yet the sky is full of A3XX with pitot tubes that require urgent replacement.

Well I'm betting this one will be pilot error or maintenance issue given the nationality of the airline and the apparent manoeuvrings it was attempting. Tried to land once already before it crashed.

The A300/A310 family are very different to the later A330/340 family.

For a start, they are an older generation (the first A300 flew in 1972).

Secondly, they use traditional control systems rather than digital fly by wire.

Actual aircraft involved - 7O-ADJ.

It was built in 1990 and delivered to the airline in 1999.

Blimey, they were quick.

Looks like the plane has had quite a few operators over the years.

19 isn't that old for an airframe.

If that is true, that is one lucky human.

No idea - a French minister said faults were found during a check in 2007 (according to the BBC)

"The cause of the crash is not clear. A French minister said faults were found on the plane during a check in 2007.

"The A310 in question was inspected in 2007 by the DGAC [French transport authorities] and they noticed a certain number of faults. Since then the plane had not returned to France," Transport Minister Dominique Bussereau was quoted as telling French TV.

"The company was not on the black list but was subject to stricter checks on our part, and was due to be interviewed shortly by the European Union's safety committee."

Spokesman for the airline blamed the crash on bad weather saying . "It was high seas and windy weather,"
WTF, was it flying or sailing?
